Sooo, is it just me or has the traffic on the forum gone down big time? I always just see the regulars posting here and there and mostly youngsters asking for opinions on pickup choices... what happened? :undecided:
-
its been discussed a few times here and there.
i tried to get into 'the fretboard' forum briefly, but its hard to get used to, friendly though it is.
-
I don't know where everyone went, but I still check in most days, just in case. It's a shame, this was a thriving community for a long time, and some of the members have become genuine friends away from it. Hopefully it'll pick up again.

^ Yeah. I've said it before but I think that time the forum went down for a couple of weeks really didn't help- I think the forum was already getting quieter, but when that happened a lot of people migrated to the fretboard forum (or elsewhere) and kind of didn't come back. I keep checking in but there's very rarely anything interesting (to be fair, that's a wider problem with forums in general... they tend to be getting less busy, and having been around them for some time now, I tend to get bored of them more easily), and often not even any new posts since the last time I checked in. I'm not going away just yet but I'm not sure how much longer I can be bothered checking in, either...

It's a shame really. I posted stuff at the Marshall forum (registered there recently when I was looking for info on an amplifier) and no matter what kind of thread I open I get responses immediately, dozens of them. Yeah, you can't compare those two forums but in contrast to how busy it was here back when I joined it feels like a desert. What's the fretboard forum if I may ask?

What's the fretboard forum if I may ask?
Over at http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/
It's not bad - I look there most days, and there's loads more action there... but, for me, it doesn't seem anywhere near as friendly and interesting as I used to find it here a few years back.
It's a shame, but nothing lasts for ever, we all change and move on
-
^ Yeah ditto pretty much.
-
I had a kid and bought a house. Since then I haven't really had time to play guitar never mind Browse and post on forums.

thats very true.
something about the music tastes people had here also back in the "glory days" - the space between Rory Gallagher and Judas Priest lets say - meant nearly every response was relevant and useful.
-
I still check in from time to time but nothing much seems to be going on here! I don't actually have any Bare Knuckles now either.. Like others I'm over on the fretboard now.
-
I decided to give the fretboard another go. So far it still doesn't feel as cosy. I don't like it that much I must say.
-
^ Yeah I think it might have been cosier back at the start, or even when it used to be MusicRadar. It can feel a bit cliquey, maybe. I know they need to expand the membership, but the tradeoff is having something which the older regulars (or some of them, anyway) don't like as much.

I'm so used to the forum here that even a different layout makes me cringe. Registered at the Laney and the Marshall Forum as I needed some info on amps and my verdict is that I still enjoy the chatter with the members here more... if they only signed in more often hahaha

I once a while visit the forum to recommend some pickups, to keep a little faithful to what is/was a great forum. It has gone quiet around here. I miss some of the old school members. It's nice some of the dinosaurs are still here. :azn:
I must confess that time is an issue at the moment and I didn't buy any guitars the last two years, neither new pickups. I invested merely in amps and cabs, but with three stacks I have enough gear now. Besides that, a lot of questions concern pickups for metal styles and that is not my forte at all. So I keep out of the topics most of the time.
But, guys I do appreciate your contributions and still digging the forum, which is certainly one of nicer ones. No bad blood here.
