I have recently started again to play the guitar after a long break. As an incentive for this new start, I bought myself a PRS SE Costum 24. It is an amazing guitar.
So I am playing the SE mainly at the moment but also went back to my old favourites, my LP Studio and my Tele. I had a bit of a shock with the latter, when it downed on me that the SE sounds more tele-like with the pups split than my Tele. It sounds great with the Boss set but it feels to me now like it is trying to sound like my LP... I don't really need it to sound like an LP since I have one that sounds really nice to me already.
I really liked the Boss set for a while, but it probably just brought me the comfort of treading into well known territory - I have been an LP player for 10 years before acquiring the Tele. Nice fat growly sound. But that wasn't the point for acquiring a Tele, I really wanted to expand my playing, which the PRS is already doing I feel.
So I am thinking of replacing the Boss set to get something more twangy. My favourite Tele sound is from Frank Black, especially is non Pixies days, so I was thinking a set of 55 stagger would do the trick. What would you recommend?
Cheers.

If your tele-neck has a 7,25 radius the staggered polepieces make sense. The Stagger 55 will certainly will provide a classic fifties sound with a lot of uppermid bite.

It is a 2007 AM Tele, so I don't think it will have such a tight radius neck. Aren't modern Fender neck around 9"?

Yes 9,5". But then again, it does not make a hell of a difference.

You could always measure the radius, or post a photo. One of us here would be able to eyeball it and tell you which one it is

The radius on AM standard is 9,5'', not too far from 7,25, so staggered polepieces won't lead to a disbalance.

Cool! So the 55 would be my best option for what I am looking for?

I would throw an email at the BKP-team to get a second opinion. I have the old BG50, which is in fact the BG52 now. I don't have live experience with the stagger 55, but it will be a bit brighter and more pronounced in the uppermids than the current BG52.
