well first off im gonna say hows it goin? im new (obviously) :)
anyways, ive been looking at bareknuckles for quite some time, just the price has scared me away for all this time. the crawlers really won me over when i heard the clips ... i really feel the whole foreigner (the band) vibe from them, and go figure im *distantly* related to their singer
but back to the topic. im kinda set on building myself a warmoth in the near future and i wanna be able to get a vai-esque axe when im finished. i just dont really wanna go buy the dimarzios because then i will think to myself "well i could just buy a jem" and i will get discouraged and whatnot.
so i was thinking maybe holydivers, but they are going to be changed! my first priority is the wood, not the electronics :(
maybe im crazy, but i was pretty set on ceramic pickups since ive always had alnicos and i just want to try something different. oh well ... u guys know more than me so any help is appreciated. thanks!
p.s. sorry for the run-ons :P

Hey, man! Welcome to the board! If you e-mail Tim, he'll steer you in the right direction. My guess is that he'll suggest the Nailbomb because of its aggressive mids (which Vai's sound has a lot of) or maybe a Miracle Man depending on what kind of amp you have. The secret though, to Vai's sound is his fingers...so practice, practice practice
-
haha i know what u mean about his fingers
unfortunately, my fingers are extremely short, but as my main influence i try to emulate what i can :)
-
Hey, I've had the Evo pickup myself and I was gonna suggest the Holydiver to you as well. You could also consider the Miracle Man set, too.
-
x_x i forgot to mention i was going for an HSH setup
-
anybody know why mine and neemos posts were removed?
-
I'm not going to recommend a pickup, since I'm not familiar enough with the BK's, but I'll ask a question that'll hopefully help the other BK'ers give you a better answer:
are you after an older vai tone (passion and warfare) slightly newer (alien love secrets and later), or even newer (the ultra zone and later)?
cos vai used paf pros and blazes (alnico V, medium output) on passion and warfare, evos (ceramic, high output) on fire garden and alien love secrets and evos and breeds (breeds are alnico v, and medium high output) on the ultra zone and later.
Phew!

yes.

looks like you're going to have to post again, unfortunately.
:D

oh, I just said I thought it was strange how the bkp guys haven't done a vai based pickup, or even a satriani one, named after one of their tunes, because I would have thought they would gain extreme popularity right away.
-
^yeah, it's true- i heard tim saying in one of the threads that the nailbomb's lead tone reminds him of satch, so that might be why they don't do a satriani one.
They could do one called the "bad horsie".

Phew!
definately fire garden and alien love secrets

As both Vai and Satch are on the Dimarzio payroll I didn't think it was appropriate but the Nailbomb really handles the Satch tone and Miracle Man can do a mean Vai too.
-
alien love secrets tone i can absolutly nail with my Miracle Man.
-
thanks ... everyone :)

thats funny, not knocking the MM, but I found it didn't have quite the mid presence and 'awww' sound that Vai's Evo's have?
h

I vote for Nailbomb. Perfect for high-octane shred stuff.

well maybe BKP will make a new pickup similar to the evo ... they could the Revolution :P
-
Sounds like a plan, although I hear that the painkiller is supposed to have quite alot of mid, and I seem to remember Tim saying that it would be around 16k (I might be entirely wrong) so that sound like it would fit the bill perfectly.
-
maybe i should wait for that bad boy then :)
when does it come out?
