Greetings , and happy new year , all!
Just picked up this PERFECT mayones baritone, 7 strings, 27 inch scale. It is everything I need to the core, but the SD nazgul/sentient combo isnt doing it. I'm missing a bit of clarity, tightness, and overall aggression. I wamt something to sound wickedly pissed, which should be easy through my 5150iii el34. I find that my palm mutes aren't hitting my body with that bone shattering thud, and my strung out chords don't have that primal roar i yearn for. Initially, I wanted a set of impulses, but now I fear those will be too neutral. Point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Ragnarok?

SS or normal frets?
-
Pretty sure they are SS (considering they are stock?). I don't think frets make that big of a difference personally.
-
^They do, believe me, plus they aren't usually stock, pretty much the opposite.
-
actually not certain if this one has SS. It seems to be 50/50 on Regius' i've seen whether or not they're the Jescar stainless ones. Regardless, this Nazgul bridge is leaving me with much to desire. Just not enough snarl or aggression across the spectrum.
-
They changed the spec on more entry level models quite recently (my duvell came with SS, but now they come with regular, for the past 6 months or so).
-
Anything we can get pertaining to pickup selection? FWIW, it's the 11 piece neck through with mahogany wings. This thing is dark and heavy.

My 7 is also 27'', big chunk of mahogany, SS frets, on paper it looks like a dark guitar, but the frets, longer scale and the walnut top makes it very trebblish. I had the Cbombs earlier and I couldn't get to it. Changed to the Cpigs and now I'm a lot happier, though it is still not very dark even with warpigs, that's what I was saying.

In your case and wanting more aggresion and clarity, I'd go for Painkillers or Black Winters. I'm also curious about the Rags but dunno much about'em yet

Beautiful guitar, btw, I also play my customs through a 5153 but mine is 6l6, so no need for more attitude, haha. The el34 as I've heard is a little bit less agressive so my advice should be ok, I think. I'm also curious about the blackhawks, but I think I'll try Painkillers or Black Winters first (the latter my all time favs so far). Anyway, whatever you decide, show us later and comment about the new tone you get.

I too, have had cbombs in a baritone that I couldn't get on with. I'm leaning towards a Rag set, because from the little I have heard, it's a refined warpig - which would be fantastic. Will order soon and definitely share my findings. Thanks!

Nice, mate, I look forward to reading about your findings, I'm a bit tired of the Jugg bridge quack and I'd like to try something else in my Swamp Ash metal machine.

After some back & forth with Ben, and a ton of digging for clips- it's down to Ragnarok or Juggernaut. I wonder if the "quack"you're dissatisfied with is accentuated by the "snappy" and percussive qualities of swamp ash? One thing i'm trying to combat its how damn dark the Mayones is.

Juggernaut isn't really aggressive... I'd definitely pick ragnarok over juggernaut.

Dunno, maybe it has something to do. I'm not unhappy but a bit tired. I love the juggs but as capac says, it's not a very aggressive pup. I haven't tried it on mahogany. In my mahogany crusher I have the Cbomb, but as I told you, it's a very trebblish guitar because of the scale, top and SS frets, so I think the Juggs would work too.
In regard to your guitar if you have my opposite problem because your Mayo is dark as hell, I don't think you'll solve the problem with the juggs, just the opposite. I don't know the Rags but I'm sure you'd get great results with the Painkiller or Black Winter as I mentioned above.

made my choice, i'm excited to bring this thing to its potential
