Title: Stormy Monday or Mules in a warm sounding Les Paul???
Post by: jalguitarman on May 18, 2018, 02:13:45 AM
Hi all,

I have a rather warm sounding 2001 58 reissue Les Paul. The stock pickups are 57 classics which I don't think are the best compliment to the base tonality of the guitar. I have 2 sets of BK humbuckers in my possession already, as I am getting rid of the guitars that they are in. A Mule and a Stormy Monday set. The guitar in question could benefit from a cleaner top end. I am just not sure if I should use the more scooped sounding Stormy Mondays or the Mules with more mids. I run a rather simple set up. A Fulltone Fulldrive Mosfet 2 into a Strymon Timeline delay which goes straight into a Fender Blues Junior that came stock with an Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker. Many advice would be appreciated.

I would try the Stormy Monday set first

Well if you're happy with a soldering iron and you have both sets to hand, why not try both and see which you like better? Or is it the case that you're not handy at soldering and you're trying to limit the amount you have to pay a tech?

Personally I'd try the Stormy Monday set in it first. But then, if it were me, I'd also want to try the Mules too just in case!

Stormies first, as the Cannabis Rex is darker sounding than the stock speaker.
