Hi, does anyone have any experience with Seymour Duncan's Antiquity II Surf pickups for Strat? I would like to know which of the Bare Knuckle pickups sounds the closest to them. I really like the tone of the Antiquities, but they're not available with flat or modern stagger.

I would say that the Pat Pending 63 Veneer Board set is what you are looking for. I have a set with flat profile on the magnets in my strat and they really have that pre-CBS 60s strat sound.

Thanks, but wouldn't the Antiquities with a DC resistance of 6.5kOhm be closer to the Irish Tour (6.3k) than the '63 (5.8k)? They're all using the same scatterwound AWG42 wire and Alnico V poles...

The Duncan Custom Shop will make them for you with whatever specs you want.

We don't normally work by comparisons of other brands. What we do instead is ask you email in or call us and we can go over what guitar you have, what sort of music you play and the general area of tone you're after and we recommend a set of pickups from there.
Hope this helps!

I'm with Chris. The BKP-forum is not the place to direct members to other pickupbrands. It's like asking in the Volkswagen-showroom what type of BMW they do recommend.

A lot of people on the Seymour Duncan forums have experience with BKPs. It might be a better place to ask for recommendations, as they would know the SD pickups better. The only SDs I own are the Quarter Pounds on my Jazz bass.

Uhhh... I thought it was clear that I'm asking which BKP pickup to choose INSTEAD of SD Antiquity, so it's more like asking people at Volkswagen which VW model would be the best alternative to BMW M3.

People could help you more if you told us what type of tones you want.

Sorry mate, then I got you/it wrong.
Despite the DC-resistance The SD's sound like a vintage pickup with a bit more lowend and tamed topend. The BKP-equivalent on paper might be the Irish Tour. But, I listened some samples and think they have the moore woody character of the Mother's Milk and Pat Pend 63. Also they have that glassy edge. You can squeeze that sounds easily out of the Irish Tours, by turning the volumeknob a tad down. The IT's are in fact overwound Mother's Milks. I you want more balls from your bridge (a tad more bass) order a baseplate.
