Title: Minimat versus Nano amp
Post by: DeanS on April 17, 2006, 06:13:49 PM
Hiya, new to the forum an' all that.......

I've never been quite convinced of the sound of my Harlequin and have been toying with the idea of buying a minimat or a zvex nano. I suppose I could go and test drive either but unlikely that I could do a back to back comparison etc.

So how do these two compare regarding their flat out overdriven sounds?

Welcome.

The Nano amp is a stereo power amplifier meant for line level playback, not for use as a guitar amp. It doesn't have phone plugs for the speaker output, nor does it have a preamp stage, volume, or gain settings. (Yes, it has an input sensitivity -- not the same thing)

The MiniMat is a guitar amp. The Nano Amp is a stereo hi fi amp.

Sorry, had my Z Vex amps confused for a minute!

The Nano Head is cool! For pure overdriven tones, it's cool.
I've never used the MiniMat.

Matamp are at the London Guitar Show, you should be able to try one there.

Oh, anybody looking for Matamp, don't go to Matamp.com that site is owned by the former US distributer who  did the company more harm than good in the US.....now he won't give up the matamp.com!

Dunno who the 'former' distributor is, but I had a horrible experience trying to listen to Matamp here!

How "loud" is the matamp actually?  Anyone got one and can tell? Can you play at decent crunch while the kids are asleep?

Don't have any kids though  :P

It has a built in attenuator so you can get a nice 6v6 overdrive going at whisper levels. I prefer it with the boost off and a nice OD pedal in front to get it screaming.

The overdrive texture is similar to a little tweed champ but there's less power supply sag so it's not as bassy or as compressed.
