Title: First time Strat owner.
Post by: SirJackdeFuzz on October 12, 2018, 12:37:01 PM
Good Day good knights of the Bare Knuckle sound table.

Like the heading says, i will be a 1st time Strat owner very soon.
A parts caster is being made for me, and it is time to choose the pick ups.

I am looking for something fat and warm, and still looking like a traditional Start pick up(s)
I am thinking along the following lines :

* SD 1/4 Pounder .....[bridge]
* BK Trilogy .............[middle]
* BK Sinner .............[neck]

Any thoughts on this configuration ?
Can it work ? Will all the pick ups play nice together, or is there a possibility that one might over power/dominate the other in any of the 5 pick up switch positions ?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, nice introduction.  :grin:
You're looking at very hot pickups, so they won't sound as vintage like say Mother's Milk.
I would just pick a Sinner set. They're composed after a lot of R&D. Sinners are fat and good for highgain applications, but still have the strat vibe going.

Thank you very Telerocker.

I am not so much looking for a high gain set, but i do love my warm and fat sounding single coils.

Ok, give me some examples/favourite stratssounds (artists).

If you want a fat - think p90-ish - singlecoil with enhanded mids and reduced topend and still vintage(hot) character have a look at Slowhands.

The Irish Tours are overwound Mother's Milk with a bit more bass, mids and less topend. Also a bit less woody than the Mother's Milks, which for me are instant John Frusciante.

Apaches are copies of a fifties F-style pickup, quite fat compared to Mother's Milk but with a softer voice.
