So i've just been listening to Pink Floyd. One Slip and Run Like Hell is what i've been listening to. They seem to remind me of certain parts of my life and alot of other music i listen to reminds me of past things too.
Fear Factory - Obsolete and digimortal reminds me of when i kept listening to it in school
Mc Hammer's theme song for teenage mutant ninja turtles reminds me of when i watched the film as a kid.
Megadeth - Countdown to extinction reminds me of when i was 15/16 and really getting into marty friedman and kept constantly listening to every megadeth song in my room all day and trying to play along.
What kind of things do you get reminded of when you listen to certain songs?
One of the more interesting topics i've created
:D

God, yeah, Weezer's Green Album reminds me of the first woman I fell in love with, and Turin Brakes cos we went so see them together. And the Libertine's 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun' reminds me of coming to Uni, cos it was on the radio on my first trip to university.
Good topic! I remember writing a song about this once, you know, how it's almost impossible sometimes to seperate the song from the memory. Sometimes a good thing, sometimes a bad thing...

and what does that song remind you of? or is there a song that reminds you of writing that song about memories of songs?
yer cool thought steve.... i cant think of anything though....

When I listen to Shine Acoustic by Muse it reminds me of sitting on the back porch at my old house as a kid, as a rainstorm is coming to an end, still raining, but you can see the sunlight breaking through. Not sure why. It just does.
I heard if you listen to the same song whenever you smoke pot or something, eventually, when ever you listen to that song you'll get high. Lol. I think its the same thing as memories, but x120933012
Listening to Rob Zombie reminds me of playing Twisted Metal, and some Rammstein songs remind me of playing Descent.

:D To some people music is nothing more than background music in a pub. To others it`s about having the latest hip album that everybodys got. But to some of us music is the sound track to life. Music reminds us of times, places, people & more often than not emotions. I played Zepplins, Physical Graffiti the other day & "Down By The Seaside" came on & i Was imediatley back with my mates in Tintagel, Trewboueweth Strand, Boscastle getting drunk smoking funney cigarettes & having the time of my life !
Lots & Lots of Ghosts............Oh dear i`ve come over all poetic :P

Oh i just remembered another, DELTRON 3030 and getting blitzed with my mates and jumping train fares and going to town and staying up all night playing computer games and listening to 'Revolution #9' in rooms with the lights turned out, then going to school the next day... :)

Too many to list but songs are evocative indeed. They do remind me of " people and things that went before" -indeed it is what makes music so special to us all. It gets more important as you get on a bit too and may it always be that way.

There are some very interesting reflections on this in the new Neil Peart book, Travelling Music. In it, Peart states that when you listen to a particular song in as wide-a-variety of settings as possible, the song 'cuts' less and has more of a shotgun effect. By divorcing the song from a particular circumstances or setting, you can therefore get more out of it.

I have a lot of CDs that I don't listen to anymore, because they remind me of bad times and how I felt back then. On the other hand, nothing introduces nostalgia for me like tunes from good times in my life. I could list dozens and dozens of songs that vividly bring me back to a particular place, time, or remind me of someone.
Cool topic, but I'd have too many examples to list.

I get that too, lots of songs are tied into events and memories, like things that I have tried learning on the spot at jam nights and stuff that was on or played alot at certain times...

RHCP - On Mercury, strip tease from the missus.
Audioslave, Cochise, first download festival, everyone was pumped!

The only song I can really think of is Smooth by Santana, reminds me of summer, and my old cr@ppy acoustic, because its the song that made me want to play guitar, so I went and bought the Smooth single, and an Argos acoustic about 6 summers ago :D

sooo many songs. this is what i really love about music - "sultans of swing" by dire straits (obviously) reminds me of going to airshows with my dad on warm summer evenings with the smell of Avgas in the air. "she took him to the lake" by alkaline trio reminds me of the first time my heart was broken. "picture of success" by rilo kiley reminds me of my best friend pat. "don't worry baby" by beach boys reminds me of my gf. "wuthering heights" by kate bush reminds me of my friend kez'n'jen. "beer" by reel big fish reminds me of the guys at skool & the list goes on......

Wow, this whole thread is the most intelligent thing ive read all week. Altho i dunno. Maybe its just the first time ive found a load of people who feel the same way about music as i do. lol, its a guitar forum, so i guess this is expected. Just im 17 and 90% of the people who go to my school that listen to music, only lsiten to it because its "well kewl liek". The whole emo/scene thing is a disgrace in my opinion. An art being used as a fashion just angers me no end. I feel sorry for the bands that work seriously hard and put so much thought and effort into crafting real good songs (not to my preference if were talking about emo/screamo) only to have half of the population claim to like it because they're told they should.
Anyway, back on topic
Music returns alot of memories for me. Im still young, but ive had my fair share of ups and downs. Soem tracks have been linked to memories because ive listened to them alot at that time, but others are linked to memories because emotional melodies or a certain atmosphere of a song put me in a state of mind where i recall memories that match the atmosphere as close as possible.
This is deep stuff! Kudos to malicious
Its one of those things alot of us have and know, but ive rarely heard people speak of it.

Too many tracks remind me of past times to mention them, though the interesting thing is when you hear a track that you at the time had no real liking for but when you hear it years later it brings back incredibly strong memories / feelings

I thought you would know better than listen to a drummer ;)
