Title: Equivalent pups to SD Antiquity Texas hot
Post by: black_crow on February 22, 2019, 03:25:34 PM
Hi everyone,
Really liked the BK pups I got for my 90s Ibanez.
And now I'm considering an upgrade to my 2011 Fender American standard strat,
which BK pups resemble the SD Antiquity Texas hot or which would you suggest
to make the Strat sound beefier and give it more grunt?

Thanks!  :afro:

Have a look at the Irish Tours. Slightly overwound 60s voicing.

Yep, Irish Tours. I have them for many years now in a HSS-strat. A bit more bass, mids and less topend than the Mother's Milk.

Thanks, will it be able to handle some gain? in case I'm in the mood for some heavy metal?

The IT's handle gain very well, but you have to keep in mind that they are vintagestyle singlecoils. I play once and a while Deep Purple stuff on the neck pickup. I reckon they're not the ideal metalpickups. For that you want Sinners or Cobra's. Yet, IT's are quite versatile. Order the bridge with a baseplate for some extra oomph.

I didn't want to go the Sinners\ Cobra road because I'm afraid it will lose the Strat mojo,
for metal I use my Ibanez S type guitar with an HD\Trilogy\VHII setting.

The problem I have with the fender stock pups is that they sound rather thin to my taste,
not trying to make an LP out of a Strat but I love to hear some grunt,
I think that the IT + baseplate (only for the bridge?) might produce good results without losing chime.
Thanks!

Irish Tours seem to fit your desires. I would order a baseplate for the bridge only. I think the neckpickup would get quite boomy with a baseplate. It has al already enough lows. Mine are in a swampashstrat with a cocobolo top, neck maple with a ebony fingerboard.

That's a nice looking strat!
