Title: BKP Black Hawk test
Post by: Toe-Knee on March 29, 2019, 04:52:23 PM
I just got this today and had a quick play around with it. Not too sure it's for me as it seems way too hot and harsh for my liking.

Nothing special here just line6 Native.

Everythings as recorded. No mixing at all as can be seen by the occasional ridiculously loud Tom hits.

For anyone who cares its in my newly built partscaster.

Hopefully tomorrow i'll get to spend more time with it and actually play it through an amp as I really do hate sims

I like it.  Besides the loud toms the guitar sounds pretty good ...

It this the ceramic version of the Black Hawk?  I have the alnico one, sounds different

Hi yes this is the ceramic version.

Thanks for the feedback.

The ceramic version might be a bit bright for that particular guitar.  If you have a darker guitar maybe try it in that. One reason I went for an alnico one is that I was worried that my Strat style guitar might be a little bright with its bolt-on maple neck, but it has a mahogany body, rosewood board, and brass block in the floating tremolo that all counter high-end harshness.  As it turned out it was perfect.  Maybe try it in a set-neck mahogany bodied guitar like a PRS Tremonti

I'm OK with the brightness. Just tweaked my amp a little.

I still think it's a bit too hot which is surprising as I usually play emgs.

I do think it's this guitar though the other pickup I tried in it also seemed way hotter than the guitar it came in.

I think I'll get somewhere that I like with it though after playing a bit rusty.

It does seem to have a lot of push but I don't think it is necessarily hotter than the alnico Nailbomb in my Explorer.  It's not like I have to wind the volume back when changing guitars.
