Title: P90's replacing Mini HB's
Post by: smudger123 on April 22, 2006, 07:47:57 PM
How easy is it to replace Mini HB's in say an epiphone elite riviera with BKP90's? I notice Tim has done this to his LP Deluxe in the gallery....

Very easy as the mini hums use a P90 cover as a surround so the fit is perfect..............they should drop straight in.In LPs there's a plate at the bottom of the cavity which the min hum attaches to for height adjustment-the P90s also can screw into this.

Yeah, mini humbucker rings were designed to fit P-90 slots when Gibson had a load of left over mini buckers (from firebirds I assume) and gold P-90 routed bodies. And the Les Paul Deluxe was the result of Gibson's parts bin raiding. It turned out a bit better than the "leftovers" guitar Fender put out when CBS owned them that's for sure...

Heard an original LP deluxe being played in anger at the weekend, back to back with a "the Paul". Surprised at how pokey and venemous the tone was. Might be considering this change in reverse....

The Mini-Mules have a great tone.  Don't let the small size fool you, they sound much bigger than they are - Scott Gorham played a deluxe for a long time with Thin Lizzy.
