Title: Mules in a 335?
Post by: Brow on May 12, 2019, 03:51:06 PM
Hey guys.

Just wondered if anyones ever tried Mules in a 335?

I used my 335 with Toneriders at a gig last night and it just couldn't keep up with my others guitars I was using that had BKPs, Dimarzios and Bulldogs.

I know most say Stormy Mondays for 335s, but seeing as I have a pair of Mules going spare, I thought I'd ask!

Cheers.

Craig

I would give them a go. Sonically they aren't that far away from Stormies.

I've got lots of Stormies in all sorts of places...

But I got Mules in my 335 :)

I have been wondering about swapping around, but I really like the way they work in there.

EDIT: Haha - just followed Telerocker's link. Yep, that's my 335.

That was way before I tried Stormies.

I love the Stormies in one Les Paul, one SG, and an Explorer (that one was a surprise).

The other Les Paul has got the "modern" weight-relief chambering, and it's lighter and has "brighter" tone acoustically... a little like the 335, still a Les Paul, but closer to the 335. I bought the Stormie set that's in the Explorer for that Les Paul - didn't do what I wanted. I ended up putting Old Guards in there. They're slightly grittier than the Stormies were, like the Mules, and they work very well in that guitar.

So, on that basis, I decided to stick with the Mules in the 335. One day, I might swap the Mules and Old Guards just to see... but that's a lot of hassle on a 335!
