Title: Opinions on a C-Bomb for an ESP LTD MH-400B
Post by: Brise-Fer on July 03, 2019, 05:55:52 PM
I just ordered a C-Bomb for my ESP LTD MH-400B. I play death metal, grindcore and black metal. Main tuning is A standard (ADGCEA).

But would you guys have chosen??

Painkiller, Aftermath, or ceramic Black Hawk.

Painkiller, Aftermath, or ceramic Black Hawk.

Interesting! Can you please elaborate on the reasons?

I'd pick the c-pig or the painkiller
Not a big fan of the c-bomb in extremely low tunings, but it should work for those styles, so you don't need to worry

Totally agree, I used to have CBomb for long time and while all of my 4 guitars have different BKPs, Cbomb was the only one I didn`t like that much especially in lower tuning (I tuned to drop only). I don`t really think that this pickup was made for that application as it doesn`t keep up and looses tightness and due to its hairy nature it`s not precise enough for low tuning riffing.

Generally speaking from my experience I would stay away from CBomb in lower tuning.
Long story short I sold my Cbomb at the end.

Being that I don't need SUPER clean and ultra defined tones, I guess it'll do! At worst, I could try selling it back if I end up not liking it.

The thing is that I find my sound too thin with the EMG 81 in  my ESP LTD MH-400B and after listening at the C-Bomb soundclips, it sounded the best to my ears.

I just think you're going to need something pretty tight for that tuning.

I would have also suggested the Impulse but that might not have enough output for your style of music. I use the alnico version of the Black Hawk in C standard but I think it might have too much bottom end in your tuning.

Out of the three stated my last preference would be the Aftermath.

Another one here who sold the Cbomb, hated it with a passion. Maybe I should give it another chance some day.... or maybe not.

My Nailbomb is being dispatched today, I'll keep you guys updated once I get it installed and test it.

Yeah man, after listening to the samples again, the Painkiller would probably have been the best choice. Oh well!

It depends on your expectations, and what "tight" means to you exactly. There's a lot you can do with a high-pass filter or just a Tube Screamer. I have a variety of 7 and 8 string pickups and what I use for any application depends on what I'm doing with palm muting
