:D Is it just me or am i the only one who thinks James Blunt is a complete & utter C*** !!
Every time i hear your beuatifull all i can think is "Stop wineing you annoying little emo c*** " !!!!
Sorry just had to get that of my chest !! :P
:D 8)
-
+1.
-
 amazing JT. I really can't stand the b*stard. I think every song i've heard of his is about his bloody girlfriend. How emo can you get aye?
-
I can't stand him, whiney, depressing, very samey.
Dosen't sound like any of the Emo I know though?... Although the common idea of what emo is and what I would call Emo are quite different. (The Casket Lottery/The Get Up Kids/Jimmy Eat World etc. to me that is Emo)
-
his voice is too affected, too much warbling vibrato bollocks. I don't understand why so many british singers have that kind of voice to sing in - David Gray and so on. I think my major gripe is the sheer amount of money these guys rake in for mediocre musicianship, and the hype they recieve. It's decent songwriting as a product; I can understand why the masses like it, but it's just really unimaginative. You can imagine them sitting in a studio with a clipboard:
'Delicate acoustic part? Check!'
'Heartbroken lyrics? Check!'
'Resolution to a major tone in the chorus? Check!'
bla bla bla
On a vaguely related note, the drummer from Coldplay gave his dad £1,000,000 as a present the other day. Nice genorosity, but it's crazy that some bands make so much money whilst some genuinely forward-thinking musicians never see a cent. Such is the music business though, it is a business after all and the product needs to sell.
JT, though, maybe you've got a career in the rap industry mate?
'James Blunt,
Is a ####!!'
Now that's beautiful! :D
-
Yeah, I wouldn't call Blunt emo. I don't like his songs though. Here's a parody that was kinda funny:
Bloody Cold (http://www.youtube.com/watch?search=it%27s+bloody+cold&v=QPzaw5kfIm0)
-
Not so much Emo as in his music style, but emo in his whiny girly lyrics and his girlfriend.
-
i used to love my mother before she discovered james c*nt
-
James Blunt gets my blood boiling, what an irritating tw@t he is (AND I hate toffs too which makes him 20x worse).
-
I agree! Music should be left to working class scumbags like The Pistols!
He will disappear off the radar soon enough. They always do. Then there will be another C*** to take his place. Sadly.
-
:D Thank God for that ! i thought i ws the only one who could see right through it !! :D
Yer i don`t no whats EMO & whats not but your right it`s the Whiney voice with false vibro & soppy lyrics that make it Emo to me. I just want ta give him a bloody good slap every time i hear him !
OK i mean i`m prepared to accept that i`m a bluesy Metaly kinda guy so i`m either singing writing songs about how blue i am because my "Baby left me" typa mans blues or i`m playing Heavy Metal songs claming i don`t care what your name is get your knickers off type of stuff but i`m not whineing about it !!
I used to listen to Virgin radio when it used to be good but over the last 3years it`s all about acoustic guitars in a rock song, played slowly with soppy girly lyrics. I mean how many more version of Damien Rices Cannonball can i be subjected to hearing !!
Virgin used to be good now its just become a Coporate drivel factory !
James Blunt What`a C*** !
:D 8)
Oh yer & cold play are wearing real thin as well ! i couldn`t get that video link to work.
-
Boardmembers - I have the honour of being in the company of such tastful individuals as yourselves....
James Blunt / David Gray / Coldplay
Thank god I'll never understand their popularity or care to listen to these C**ts.
Why the hell does David Gray have to shut his eyes and wobble his damn head like a muppet everytime he performs?
Sail Away.. F**K off please.
-
He appeals to 12yo girls though, which is a record seller.
Shame being this will always be the way now :(
And as for the UK Xmas #1's (well been absent for 6 years but have a long memory lol).
It is "pop" I guess, therefore like chewing gum, disposable after a very short period.
Then again, I could have got into trouble with a couple of "popsters" i.e. spice girls LOL. What ever hapened to them (apart from the footballers wife that is).
Oh well, least he is not BIG in US, but I am coming home soon, AGGGHHHH Lord Help :)
-
James Blunt is all about this:
Search the internet, glossy women's magazines and find the top 100 words and sentences women want to hear and paste 'em all together in a dozen songs and burn 'em all on a CD.
I never heard lyrics so mushy. This man is probably getting some serious @ss.
-
Beautiful was co-written by a woman, so you may well be right, Mr Rod! :D
-
ahahah, this thread's awesome. I thought i was the only one who hated coldplay and the like.
Indie music can go away too, lol.

What I hate is all these new indie whingers being classed as rock......GET F***ED! When I turn on the big K I want to see 'tallica and Pantera and Vai and Skid Row etc etc ,not F***in' Franz Ferdinand and all that shitee.
To me they are just as bad as the indie shite that was around years ago like Suede and Oasis and Blur, bollocks.
Metal up your arse!!!!!!!

James Blunt....NO...Stop whining and F*** off back to the forces you toffy nosed C***!!!!!

has anyone noticed that there's lots of bands like franz ferdinand, the libertines, the strokes, etc. and they all seem to be doing really well for themselves, although i've never met a single fan for any of these bands... Maybe i just hang out with the right people?
-
Pete Docherty can go F*** himself aswell.

hahah, +1! Scuzz is a lot better than Kerrang now, IMO, but then a lot of the time it goes to the other extreme- too much of the super-heavy stuff- i like melodic metal/hard rock! Awesome avatar, by the way...

the way i see it, the popular rock bands are popular because they're safe enough for the mainstream pop guys to like them too- hence coldplay, blunt and the like...
I mean, I don't see pantera or any of those type of guys ever getting to be mainstream...
-
Pete Docherty can go F*** himself aswell.
I think he will manage that all by himself, didn't he get banned from driving, then get arrested about 3 hours later in his car or sometihng?
-
:D Yep again have to agree the whole indy rock band thing has gone way to over the top. To me it just shows how far off the rails the mainstream music industry has got & by definition how much trouble there in. Franz Ferdinand Heavy Metal my F***ing Arse !!
Agree that Dockerty tosser what a F***ing w**ker !
Also agree that there needs to be room for more than just D tuned thrash heads on radio & Mtv type tv shows. There`s some great stuff out there that could do with the exposure.
James Blunt = Still a C*** !!
:D 8)
-
^yeah, that's what really gets my goat. I can either listen to coldplay type level of heaviness, or else straight into drop-z tuned death or black metal sung in a gutteral sub-bass cookie monster voice!
bar the darkness, who, lets face it, are only accepted because it's not 100% clear that they aren't just taking the piss, there's no real rock music anymore. Rock has been kind of homogenised to fit in with the mainstream, and if it's not heavy enough, it's assumed you want to listen to songs about sacrificing crows to hades...
Not that I have anything against metal, I like metal, but not too heavy metal, lol. And I like hard rock too, and there's no really good hard rock any more (again, bar the darkness).
and don't even get me started on that damn "girlfriend" song by the darkness...
Sell-outs!
-
My album of the moment is band a band called The Abominable Iron Sloth (http://www.ironsloth.com/index2.html) - I think I've nailed my colours to the mast on this issue  :D
-

LOL!
The thing is, there's loads of bands out there that you will LOVE, but you'll never hear about them.
Example - I'm a big fan of prog. Not everyone's taste, I know, but bear with me. Like most people, I thought that prog died in the 70s. For years I listened to Genesis, Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, etc. and thought, "Those were the days."
Prog didn't die in the 70s. There are at least several hundred active prog bands in the world today, and some of them are amazing. Prog didn't die any more than the blues died, any more than jazz died. It just became unfashionable. And frankly, I listen to music because I like it, not because it's fashionable. I don't need some marketting man to point me in the "right" direction.
There must be plenty of people still doing hard rock, old school metal, whatever floats your boat.
Give this a try: Deadwing by Porcupine Tree. £6.99, post free, from Play.com. Great combination of heavy riffing, stellar songwriting and moody soundscapes. Adventurous, interesting music. The perfect antidote to Bluntness!
Plug obscure bands!
-
Just re-read that and it sounded a bit like a criticism. Wasn't meant that way. I just get very passionate about bands that no-one has ever heard of and that really deserve recognition for their talents.
-
^ thanks.
yeah, i know there are lots of good bands. it's kind of annoying the way you basically have to order the cd and hope that it's good. I mean, if I liked popular music, I could hear the stuff first on the radio or wherever... but i have to take a chance (as i do with most of the cd's i buy)...
-
You can often get samples off the web, especially for more obscure bands because they know they're not going to get radio/TV airplay. Not much use unless you have broadband, but if you do ...
http://www.porcupinetree.com/
... and click on "Listen Now".
-
^ cheers!
EDIT: they seemed pretty cool, actually- i think i'd heard of them before, but never heard any of their music.
Thanks!
-
Dave
itunes is pretty cool for samples and NEW stuff. It associates music too, so if you listen to X it will reccommend Y etc. (even if ya don't have an ipod it's usefull).
Dunno exactly what music you are into (know you mentioned hair metal/rock before) but just found a group called Bullets and Octane which are pretty darn cool.
Maybe worth a listen.
I like their new song "Save Me Sorrow" and "Pirates" they only have two albums so are quite new.
http://www.bullets-and-octane.com/
-
Look I agree that so many people with no talent make all the money and so many REAL artists never make a cent... and thats not fair.
Have a look at SRV. When he died in the aircraft accident he was most definately not a rich man.
Here we are 20 years later looking at him on every magazine cover just about.
Its all about marketing and being marketable for minimum outlay to the record company.
-
cheers, nick, i'll look into it whenever i get the chance. you're right, i never really messed around with any of that stuff because I haven't got round to getting an ipod (or equivalent) yet...
-
Wow Dakine, they rock. Awsome. Makes me want to go and get a Les Paul ,a bottle of J.D a huge Marshall stack and go on tour.
-
LOL
yep, itunes find :)
Truthfully am NOT an ipod junkie or itunes but the way it "links" music makes it easy to find some cool and not so "main stream" stuff, good for that :)
They are bloody clever at sales too :) If ya do buy a tune they then input your data and make suggestions for similar. This reminds me of alot of older bands/tunes I had forgotten about and therefore depletes my itunes card pretty darn quick lol.
-
I never heard lyrics so mushy. This man is probably getting some serious @ss.
that man?
-
Talking of new bands which is good way to distract our goodselves from the ultimate C***, has anyone listened to that album by The Drive By Truckers (I haven't)? They are supposed to be sort of Skynyrd southern rock thing (which is always good for drinking too)
-
They are alot more country than Skynard to my ears.
Want Southern Rock with a "grin" :) try Nashville Pussy lol, kinda cramps,ac/dc,skynard and quite weird/amusing to boot.
-
Little Feat- maybe not "Southern" for the purists but they do it for me.
-
Christ, I won't have you metal lovers sully the good name of emotional hardcore. Just today I listened to some Drive like jehu, fugazi and some Jimmy Eat World, and I LOVED it.
Call it emo all you want, I love the proper emo stuff, the whole my chemical romance and their whiney ilk can $% right off.
Then again, I do love bands like death cab for cutie, jimmy eat world and the like, but I class them as pop bands, since they all write good songs and can sing (unlike 90% of metal bands...).
So cr@p if they write about girls, its a subject most people can relate to, and if I was them I wouldn't care what some greasy metal kids say
-
^ hahaha, cheers!
to be fair, i was complaining about blunt (and coldplay)...
a lot of the guys who can do the gutteral metal cookie monster voice actually can sing pretty well, in fact better than most of those emo singers (beter than the jimmy eat world guy, anyway)- phil anselmo and the dude from killswitch engage to name but two... which is why i get pissed off that they don't sing more, lol.
-
Well.. it depends what kind of metal you're on about.. but the vocalists in Dragonforce, Maiden, Iced Earth, Dream Evil, Gamma Ray, Manowar etc can sing soo well, amazing range, especially Kai Hansen (gamma ray) and the guy from Dream Evil.
-
the gutteral metal cookie monster
voice.
I totally agree that some of these guys can sing really well.
In fact whenever I see live footage of Trivium I get really disappointed that after performing the cookie monster passages his voice is knackered for the sung vocals.
Such a shame as I love the album.
-
Have a look at SRV. When he died in the aircraft accident he was most definately not a rich man.
Here we are 20 years later looking at him on every magazine cover just about.
Even Jimi's songs didn't chart all that well outside of the UK. Purple Haze only reached 65 on the US Billboard charts--and that was one of his highest rankings.
I'm with Badgermark on Jimmy Eat World. I like their song The Middle, especially. It has positive lyrics and a catchy riff.
-
Depressing/talking about girlfriends doesn't always means its emo to me. If they sing like James Blunt and just $%ing cry like a pussy it's emo. Radiohead can be depressing but they aren't emo.
-
Call it emo all you want, I love the proper emo stuff, the whole my chemical romance and their whiney ilk can $%&# right off.
Damn straight, "proper emo" = :) - "marketed emo" = :(
-
Wow Dakine, they rock. Awsome. Makes me want to go and get a Les Paul ,a bottle of J.D a huge Marshall stack and go on tour.
Haha. Just starting to get that together now.
Glam/Sleaze is coming back into fashion, and about time too. :)

Here's a cool prog band I discovered at a Dog and Duck in Swindon! http://www.soundaloudtv.co.uk/video.php?video_id=45
They're awesome live, and they do have some more melodic stuff www.xi-uk.com .
There's nothing wrong with a bit of emotional content, I'm a fully paid up hard rocker, yet one of my favourite songs is Pain by JEW. It's cynical, hollow, sentimentalist sh*te that's the problem. That's my real problem with JB, if you sat down and recorded a song where the chorus is "you're beautiful" repeatedly in a tortured voice (sudden gratifiying mental image of JB being tortured) , it's going to go to number one. It's not good songwriting, it's the musical equivalent of a Clinton card!
-
I'm with ben here, most 'emo' bands are good song writers with some great pop sensabilities. But James Blunt needs 2 other people to write a song where the chorus is 'your beautiful, your beautiful, its true'.
I know i mentioned 90% of metal vocalists are cr@p singers, but the exceptions are amazing. Bruce Dickinson from iron maiden is the one i think of (I kinda hate metal so i really should be quiet...)
-
They are alot more country than Skynard to my ears.
Want Southern Rock with a "grin" :) try Nashville Pussy lol, kinda cramps,ac/dc,skynard and quite weird/amusing to boot.
I've heard of them, they have a tasty bird in the band too judging by the photo i saw! I'll have to check them out.
-
:D Soundaloud TV sound great to me liked that very much great find ! :D My problem with JB wasn`t that it`s emo its that it`s contrived girly rubbish. Totaly & utterly fake. Designed to con. I have no probs at all with EMO stuff when it`s sincere. I was there after all when Marillion 1st broke on the scene. You want emo read the lyrics of there 1st album. "Script for a jesters tear"
:D 8)

Damn straight, "proper emo" = :) - "marketed emo" = :(
The Anniversary, Cursive, Bright Eyes, The Promise Ring, Rilo Kiley, Saves The Day... Yeah thats the route to walk down.
Gets boring though - and i wouldn't wanna play it. i just listen to it because it reminds me of my childhood really - this is what i used to listen to wen i was really little and first got in to music.
-
But James Blunt needs 2 other people to write a song where the chorus is 'your beautiful, your beautiful, its true'.
i think you missed out a "you're beautiful"...
man, what a lyricist(s)!

Well - thankyou kindly Ben. We do try :D Absolutely agree. A good song NEEDS emotional content - but it has to be sincere, and it has to pe part of the music, not something that's "grafted on".
Thanks too for watching the Xi video at Soundaloud TV (hehehe JT - "Soundaloud TV" would make a great band name - but I think the website owners might object). More hits on that link is what we need!!
Cheers

James Blunt needs 2 other people to write a song where the chorus is 'your beautiful, your beautiful, its true'.
There must be girls (maybe boys too) who are deluded enough to think he's singing directly to them. And he's not: he's singing to his wallet.

Hmm I have a 13 year old daughter so you can guess what I have to put up with in the house (musically) :(
My appreciatio of Mr Blunt went up when I heard about this Paris adventure, for those who missed it.
Apparently he received an award in Paris (I assume it eas for record sales not any sort of quality based thing), while in his hotel room he heard some noises and when he woke up he saw a figure rummaging through his stuff.
Happily he clocked the burglar over the head with his award, knocking the unwelcome guest clean out, and being commended by the French police for his actions.
Therefore he can't be all bad, though I wish he would give up the so called music career.

Nope, I'm actually a member of the undead ATM, as I arrived back into London @ 05:50 this morning and am now working a 16:30 -> 03:00 shift :(
I'm gonna have to listen to James Blunt to stay awake till end of shift.
Now I have 2 weeks email to catch up on (700 msgs) and everything here too (hmmm which do I prefer)
