Title: Schecter C-1 Blackjack ATX
Post by: Dave Sloven on October 10, 2019, 11:00:33 AM
I purchased this guitar recently to replace my Epiphone Explorer as my live backup for my Schecter Stiletto 6-FR (fitted with an alnico Black Hawk set).

It comes with a Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackout set but compared to the Black Hawks they sound dark, compressed, and a bit muddy in C Standard through the crunch channel of my Peavey JSX.  Maybe my strings (11-56) are part of the reason why I find these Blackouts too dark but I like them with the Black Hawks in my other guitar.

Other features on this guitar are Schecter locking tuners, a TonePros bridge, and a GraphTech TUSQ XL nut, all standard on this guitar.  I have fitted a DiMarzio ClipLock strap, that's been the only mod so far.

I've recently ordered a second alnico Black Hawk set for this one, plus a Jenson capacitor, two 550K CTS short shaft pots, and a 500K CTS push-pull tone pot, and I will also fit a CRL 3-way selector switch, a mono Switchcraft jack, and all new wiring.

Here are some photos of it as it currently is.

They certainly are!  I got this one from a pawn shop for AU$700, with barely a mark on it besides some of the 'black' on the black chrome hardware having worn off.  Would be even better value if I liked the pickups!  I've been spoiled by BKPs.  Bandmates didn't help by telling me that my Stiletto sounds much better than this one

nice one, I love Schecters though I sold my three, the SLS 7 active, passive and the KM7. Very solid instruments

I am also impressed by the Schecter Nick Johnston Trad., which is the cheapo version of his signature strat.

A quick update.  The alnico Black Hawk set is in.  I'm just waiting for some new Gotoh knobs to fit the CTS pots and then I'll post a good photo.  In the meanwhile here's a photo of the control cavity.  I had to drill a hole and remove a bridge stud insert to install a ground wire, as the ATX guitars don't seem to have/need them (something to do with the stereo jack etc).

Here you go, the finished guitar with knobs etc.

I have to say that the Black Hawks look killer in these Schecters!

They would also look awesome in an old Peavey T-60 with radiator covers.

Yeah, but the shape of the T-60 ...

I don't mind the shape of the T-60.  What I don't like is the warped pickguards they tend to have now and all of those chrome screws all over the pickguard.  I'd have a new 3-ply pickguard made and fit it with black screws so that they would be less obvious.
