Title: Abraxas or Mule ?

I have the Abraxas set in my PRS Bernie and I love them. I also own a PRS S2 Singlecut which has the Rebel Yell set. I much prefer the more vintage tones of the Abraxas set. I want to change the pickups in the S2 and my first inclination is to just get another Abraxas set but I am kind of reluctant to have two sets the same.  I'm thinking about Mules.

How much difference is there between the Abraxas set and the Mules ? On paper the Abraxas bridge looks to have far more output but I've read that in practice they don't sound vastly different.

Thoughts ?

The Abraxas has got more mids, that's for sure, slightly hotter output too.

But for bit variety, i'd go with a Mule set for the vintage PAF tone.

The Mule is a genuine PAF 59 copy. More open and dynamic than the slighty hotter hotrodded Abraxas. You will the hear the difference especially when played clean. There is some 3D magic about the clean sound. They can handle a lot of gain as well, don't worry. I like the balance of the Mules: quite even from top to bottom.

I recently replaced a Riff Raff with a Rebel Yell, and although they have similar voicing and other qualities, there's a quite significative difference in output and in how much more the Rebel Yell pushes my amps into a much more compressed overdrive, almost like there's a tube screamer in front of the amp
I'd suppose the differences between the mule and abraxas should be equivalent in those terms

I have Mules in my Bernie and adore them. I was umming and ahhing about these or the Abraxas before I got them, and Ben advised me at the time that the Abraxas bridge is about 10-15% hotter than the Mule. Slightly smoother top end, a bit more midrange and slightly more compressed.
