Title: Painkiller Bridge & 1 meg pot/s too much ?!
Post by: ProggLife on March 17, 2020, 09:39:26 PM
Evenin,

I have a PRS SE 277 Baritone and have recently installed a painkiller in the bridge to up the aggression, and to get away from the heavy amount of low mids coming from the fact the guitar is mostly mahogany. I am loving it so far, I play mainly modern metal type tones so the attack and stiffness is working great and I plan on pairing it with a cold sweat in the neck asap (open to any other suggestions though). My only issue is I am still finding the sound of the guitar overall to be too nasally and with a slightly more rolled off top end than I'd like.

My next idea to remedy this is to install 1 meg pot/s instead of the current 500k pots that are in the guitar. My only concern before doing this is that the painkiller already has a lot of attack and a certain hi end stringy element to it, do you guys think this will become too much by using it with a 1 meg pot ?

All feedback is much appreciated :)

Try wiring the pickup directly to the jack first.  That will give you some idea of the effect of installing a 1M pot
