Title: Set for 335

Hi All,

I am looking for a new set for my 335. Right now it has the stock classic 57’s and they are a bit dull in this guitar.

For: Holdsworth type (with gain) single note solos, and also very clean jazz soloing.

Abraxas? Needs tight bass. Also my 335 is on the bright side. Can’t get too “fizzy” when playing solos with gain.

VHii? Looks a bit bright.

Can stormy mondays handle fusion soloing with gain?

If possible, I want something in the vintage hot category. I want a bit more output.

All BKP's handle gain well. I play everything with Mules (which have a subtle emphasis on the mids). But go Abraxas if you want to keep PAF-flavour but need a little more output, mids and less topend. You sacrifice a bit of openness and dynamics of the Mule though.

Thanks. Are there any other differences between the Abraxas and mule? Some people say the Abraxas is lacking in low end and is too bright, brittle/thin.

How is the low end in the Abraxas? Is it really tight with gain?

The pickup height is very important with scatterwound pickups. I think people who say the Abraxas is thin have not set them right. The Abraxas is a beefed up Mule, so low end should be tad bigger, mids are a little more pronounced and the topend is more rounded. I heard great hardrock/metal clips with the Abraxas. It's not a metal pickup, but it can do a lot. I play classic rock/hard rock with Mules. It also depends on how tight the low end of your amp is.
