				Hi!
I have a custom strat (made by a small luthier workshop) that came with a HSS set of Irish Tours and Nailbomb. I removed the Humbucker because it was certainly overkill for what I wanted the guitar and kind of out powered the singles: I replaced it with an Emerald bridge but I find it a bit lacking character in that guitar, (really flat, dull sound) and yet a bit hot for my taste. The Irish tours measure around 6.3 k Ohm, and the Emerald 13.4 k Ohm. I want to use the guitar mostly for clean and low - mid gain stuff.
I was thinking on a Old Guard for the bridge, have one in a Epi Les Paul and it is easily one of my favorite pickups (and have and have had lots of bareknuckles), it is superbly balanced and has a lovely response. so the question is, does anybody have any experience with that pup in a Strat? the rest of the offering in the vintage output range seems very LP or alike oriented to me.
thanks!

I'm in the same boat with a HSS player series Strat and the BK Old Guard is the one I've singled out as a lower gain bucker that doesn't overpower the 2 stock single coil pups.

What kind of timbers? What is the natural voice of your strat (bright, medium, bassy) ? I can see a Mule working in a not too bright strat.

It is really not bright, I'd say medium. Has a neck like a baseball bat, makes it quite sound.

Ok, then Old Guard or something like a Mule are worth a try.

How do you think the Mule can be better than the Old Guard? to me the second one is almost perfect ....

What is better? No idea, they are different. The Mule has a A4 magnet, the OG a AII magnet, so it's closer to a Stormy Monday. Maybe a tad hotter even.
The Mule is imho one of the best PAF 59 copies.
When you have settled on a OG just go for it. The Bootcamp Series are more affordable too.

Well I will stick to the OG for now, seems a safe bet. Thanks!

old guards are middier and warmer than mules, if that's what you're looking for
mules are "glassier" and more open sounding
