Title: SD Jazz equivalent (neck) and Hotter Apache Bridge
Post by: fentonwinmill on April 30, 2020, 11:25:18 AM
Am turning one of my strats into a duel humbucker, it already has a SD JB in the bridge so wanted to go with a Jazz or BK equivalent, which would you suggest. Stormy Monday?

I'm also building a bitsa strat and will have a neck and middle Apache becoming free from the above build. What single coil would you suggest in a bridge position with similar tonality
to the Apache but a little hotter

Old Guard or Holy Diver

Won't you replace the JB as well?

The RiffRaff neck might be a good alternative too. The SD Jazz is alnico V so I would look a BKP equivalent for that. The Holy Diver neck Eric mentioned is brighter than most BKP neckpickups.

Here's a review:

For the 'bitsa strat' I suggest a Irish Tour with a baseplate or - if you want additional mids - a Slowhand.

I've got the Holydiver set - replaced a JB/59 set. The neck HD is much brighter than the 59 it replaced, and by most descriptions seems quite similar to the Jazz.

I think I actually preferred the 59 - if I hadn't got etched covers I'd consider switching back.
