Title: Modern metal pickups for Chapman 7
Post by: grubbavitch on May 14, 2020, 05:46:40 AM
Hi folks,

I know I want s BKP set for my Chapman ML7-S, but I can't get my head around which set to go for. We are spoiled for choice these days! I play various styles of metal and hard rock, from djent to metalcore to old school thrash, with a side-portion of ambience. I generally play with the lowest string tuned to A and all other strings standard. What should I go for?

Aftermaths - recommended to me on Twitter by the BKP account a couple of years back, but I ended up not buying pickups at that time.
Ragnaroks - anything Misha touches sounds good.
Silos - huge fan of Rabea, I like how they clean up but do they sacrifice some output? Does it matter?

Happy to consider other suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Out of those three the only one that appeals to me personally is the Silo

I'd love to hear near about that Dave, what about them appeals (and why the others don't)? I feel like I don't know enough about the differences between them.

I just don't like honky djent pickups.  The Silo seems more versatile

You seem to be looking for versatility and you like what Misha brings? You are asking for Juggernauts no brainer imo

True Grits should get more attention

*IF* the Chapman is a bright guitar, go for Juggernauts.
They are amazing, balanced, and super phat pickups for the exact kind of tones you are after.
I dropped a 7 string set in an Ibanez RG and the pickups just disappeared, really highlighting the sound of the guitar.  Super transparent and musical.   Tight enough for rhythm but great for leafs and solos.  Nice cleans too.

I think I my older posts were influenced more by the sound of the locking trem on my 6 string shred stick.  I upgraded the trem system on that guitar and it definitely improved the tone significantly.
