Title: Shaggy (Black) Dog Story...
Post by: Skybone on April 29, 2006, 11:00:47 PM
Due to popular demand, (OK... carlaz & _tom_) here's a taste of the Black Dog's snarling...

Recorded at a rehearsal session the other week ($%&#-ups & naff solo included), the song is called "Gaia".

Equipment used is a Black Dog loaded Tokai Love Rock (the blue one) using the bridge, and my Marshall 4104 combo (with HotPlate & Fuzz Box in front).

Nice thick sound and cool song. Love the phasing - I never used to 'get' that effect 'till I heard Kyuss' Wretch album, and recently Electric Wizard's Dopethrone - and you know your band doesn't sound too dissimilar to either of them!

Sounds good although the recording quality was a bit bad, not too clear so you cant get a good idea of the tone I guess. I liked the song you were playing though  :D

The bass player bought a mini disc recorder the other week, and used that to get some tracks down.

I thought the tone on there was killer, certainly sounds like a great tone to me! :D

Ahhhhhhhhh .... smokin'!  8)

OK, I'm with Tom insofar as your band would benefit sonically from an upgrade in the recording circumstances, but your clip is perfect for showing there's a lot more in the Black Dogs than Pageish tones.  It's got a real good snarling grind going on in there.

Cheers for the comments.

We're planning on knocking everything into shape, now we finally have a drummer, and then look at getting a demo done, and then hopefully start gigging (or vice versa).

Fitted a VHII to my Iceman the other week, so next rehearsal may get some nice VHII clips as well.

"It's not what you got, it's what you do with it" as the old saying goes. ;)

Ah, yes, I have been seeing more and more good stuff about the VHII -- it'll be interesting to hear it doing something further away from trad metal stylings :)
