Hey y’all, I’m wondering if anyone could shed some light on a few things for me. So I have a HH Tele, and I’m thinking that I’d like to try something different in the neck. I already have a strat neck, and find humbuckers there a little bit lacking for the cleans I like.
I have read/watched in various places that although similar, Humbucker sized P90’s are not the same as full sized ones, do to the extra dimensions. I asked BKP and Ben replied -
“The HSP90s are exactly the same as the soapbar and dogear ones - the large single coil bobbin, two magnets etc etc - the only difference is the effect of the metal cover which makes things very slightly brighter but the effect is minimal.“
I thought rather than bombard him with annoying replies I’d see if anyone here had any experience first. His reply just seems to go against other information and my logic.
Basically I’m wondering if it’s worth going the extra mile and routing the Tele cavity, or if there’s no point. I don’t mind doing it, but if they sound the same I might as well save myself a job!!
Also a 2nd point, does anyone have a recommendation on what has the nicest clean out of the blue note, Mississippi Queen & Nantucket In the neck? I don’t really like dark pickups, so basically want it to be nice and chimey, but sweet and not harsh. I kinda ruled out the Manhattan as a jazz voices pickup is going to be too dark for me.
Anywho, any info would be great if any of you guys have any experience on the subject!!
Cheers
Dean

What bridge humbucker are you using?
I've always liked the Blue Note neck

A Nantucket-bridge and Blue Note-neck work well as a combo. For chimey cleans I would prefer the Blue Note in the neck over the Nantucket.
The Nantucket-bridge is quite versatile.

I would go HSP if your tele is routed for humbuckers. The difference is marginal.

The Blue Note neck can do jazz too if you roll the tone back
