Hi All,
I am looking for new pickups for one of my guitars. It is currently equipped with a BKP Juggernaut bridge and VHII neck. The guitar has mahogany body, maple cap, set-mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, a fixed bridge with a 25' scale. The guitar was used for downtuned metal but that role has been taken by an RGR652 with ragnaroks.
There is nothing particularly wrong with either of the juggernaut or VHII but having said that I am not really loving the jugg/vhii either (by comparison I love the ragnaroks); I am just really wanting to try something something different.
Because the guitar would be used to cover a range of newer and older rock, metal, prog, in standard or drop D tuning - I am looking for something versatile. I'd also like it to be defined without a harsh top end and have some 'oomph' (for lack of a better term) without being too hairy.
So far I have been looking at the Silos. I see Nolly rates the Silos highly in his PRS CU22 (similar construction to my guitar) and obviously Rabea gets great sounds out of them - but they are both pros.
Was just hoping people might be able to chime in with any opinions/feedback on the Silos ideally in a similar guitar (e.g. something like a CU24/22), in comparison to Holy Diver bridge or just generally.

I have or have had a dozen different BKP humbuckers so far and I'd still rank my Silo bridge as my favorite or second fav bridge pickup. I have a silo in the bridge of my Charvel dk24 (maple and alder) and it's really versatile. I have a juggernaut bridge in another guitar and I love it but yeah, the Silo is very different sounding. The Silo has thicker sounding single notes, and also pinch harmonics are louder. It cleans up well when you turn the volume down and doesn't lose much articulation. It also sounds great all the way up and down the fretboard. You could have it as your only pickup and solo up to the 24th fret using the E, B, and G strings without getting that warbly effect.
I have seen people give the Silo great reviews when they were using it on a Les Paul and also on PRS style instruments. I suspect it would work well with most style electrics. The one thing I can't tell you anything about is the Silo neck pickup. I've been meaning to get one to try.
My favorite neck PUs are the Impulse and the AFtermath because they have great sustain, are very fluid, just amazing for shredding, solos, long sustained notes, etc. You can do pinch harmonics with them easily, which is not that easy to do with most neck pickups. They sound good all the way up and down the fret board too, especially the Impulse.

Yeah the Impulse set is amazing. The bridge pickup needs a fairly thick/dark sounding guitar though, so keep that in mind.
The specs on your guitar are pretty much in between these two guitars, one has just the bridge and the other has the set. Same guy, which makes comparing the videos better. One video compares the Impulse bridge to the Juggernaut bridge, which gives a good idea of the character. Of course you could combine the Impulse neck with a different bridge pickup if you need more of something.

I have a set of Silos, on my PRS Custom 24, and I'm really enjoying the character of the pickup, and how well it matches the guitar.
In terms of versatility I think they are amazing, they have so much range, you can play pretty much anything with them. Although, at first I wasn't really sold on them since they weren't as hot as I expected them to be, but they grew on me.
That PRS is my to go Guitar whenever I'm noodling or messing around with it.
