I need some help choosing a colour for a custom PRS, Im going to order this month, but have no idea what to choose. Being a metal dude I need a metal look, but at the same time its cool to have a vintage look on the guitar as well.
Im thinking a set of black MM`s, and black hardware.
So heres what I have to choose from:
1: Charcoal burst.
Metal, dark, but maybe not flashy enough,
2: Tabacco/Tea Burst
A mix between the two colours. Flashier, but not quite as Metal. But still a very nice colour.
3: Slate Blue
A very nice colour.
If theres any other suggestions, Ill great them with open arms.

I'd say Trans Blue or Tiger Red on a flamed maple top. Very nice colours.
-
Jappse, have I misunderstood or are you ordering a private stock PRS?
The blackburst is most metal, but I quite like the Faded Blue Jeans colour:

... which isn't metal at all.
-
You're ordering a private stock? You must be loaded!!!
I'd go for the satin charcoal finish used on the modern eagles. Beautiful colour that really shows off the grain of a private stock flame top.
-
No no no no, twinfan. Im gonna order a custom PRS made from a luthier in poland. Im not THAT loaded, or stupid, to buy a PRS private stock.
But thanks for your input, I do like that charcoal burst.
-
^ out of the colours you had, i liked the charcoal burst. It's also quite metal, but retaining a bit of class too, and not being over the top. I'm not too well up on PRS, though, so I don't know if they have any other colours that I'd like better.
They did a nice blue sunburst on a singlecut that guitarist magazine reviewed a while back, but that's hardly metal...
-
No problem Jappse - the satin charcoal is fantastic in the flesh. Pictures just don't do it justice. It's much more subtle than a high gloss finish too - very metal.
-
So youve seen it Twinfan?
-
id say slate blue all the way. Its still pretty dark but looks pretty classy. I myself like whale blue

So youve seen it Twinfan?
Yep - I've seen a Modern Eagle with trem in Charcoal and I've also seen a fixed bridge Modern Eagle in Faded Denim.
My wife would love me to get the charcoal one, but I don't "do" £5000 guitars!

Sounds killer you lucky bleeder!! :D
-
Yeah, sounds like it will be a very cool guitar. :) Are you getting it made by Mayones? They're the only guys I know of who use badi as a tonewood.
Oh, and as for the colour, I like the blue and the black.
-
I am going to be a dtractor and say the Tobacco /teaburst- traditional and can't be beat in my view but as I am not the one choosing and paying, feel free to ignore me. Great spec though and whatever you get, I hope you are very happy with the results.

Thanks, ive been so fed up with finding a guitar that suits me. If I found one, it was just danm expensive.
I got the luthier idea from ztevie, who was very helpful and served me his research on POLISH guitar makers. I contacted a lot of them, but I was most satified with REK`s answer. REK is a custom guitar maker that consists of Radomil & Krzysztof Rek, they are brothers and very good with exotic woods. You should check one of their costumers, hes crazy when it comes to two handed tapping.

Anyways, the guitar will cost around 1800 €, which is a VERY GOOD price. REK are very fast when it comes to E-mail, and they both know fluid english.
But im still in doubts when it comes to the colour. Have to sleep on this...

I'd go for black cherry.

Thanks Ratrod, you now gave me another option...
Ill just have to settle for one and get another one with either blue or red...
-
If you were going with the faded tobacco, would yu have the physically faded finish aswell? because that is hot! feels lovely, looks organic. Perhaps not for metal though...
