Title: Wiring assist request- Aftermath set going in a SG
Post by: sp1104.2 on December 29, 2021, 12:46:19 AM
Greetings... First post here.

Hoping to get some feedback/suggestions on what I am planning to do. Pretty much a novice with wiring. I've wired up about 8-10 guitars over the last few years... 4-5 went smooth- 3-4 not so smooth but eventually got there - One caused a minor tic and a bout with Tourette's (335- I'll never wire a guitar through a gdmfsobcs piss/F hole again)

I made a few changes to a BKP diagram. I think I'm close and what I've changed is right and will work but before I heat up the iron I'd like some feedback where I might need to make some adjustments.

1st pic unedited BKP diagram.

2nd pic my edited scheme.
I'm planning on wiring the tone in vintage/50's wiring and also doing a partial coil split

Much appreciated, thanks,
Steve

Have you measured the depth of the control cavity?  SGs are pretty shallow, so you might not have room for the push-pulls.

I found the BKP capacitors pretty hard to fit in.  You might want to solder them in last as I found it pretty hard to wire in the pickup hot wires with them in place.  This SG of mine has an alnico War Pig set.  I used 0.022uF caps and 550K pots.  This photo is before fitting the actual pickups

This one is with the pickups in.  I do not recommend soldering a wire to the cavity cover.  I had that years ago. This time I just used a contract ground between the cavity cover shielding and the paint.

It's a tight fit but I'm pretty sure I'll get the lid on. I think I'll have about a .5mm to spare. I've got it wired up on a template tight at or below the top of the pP's. The caps I used are bigger than I thought they'd be... not quite as big as the drums you have. I should have got the smaller Russian PIO caps (silver/K-40Y-9's) I got some different batch (red K-40P-2B's) that are twice as big as the silver ones. I rigged them as out of the way as I could tucked back between the pots keeping in mind accessing the pickup connections,
