Well, I don't know how many of you have sweat as acidic as mine, but I can almost hover my finger over a string and turn it brown :(
Well, I have gone through most makes and found DR Extra Life to be the best. Problem is they are coloured and expensive!
Well, when I ordered my EB Petrucci I was talking to the guy and he recommended a different string.
SIT Strings. So he sent me a set with the guitar. i love em. They have lasted a Looooooooong time and a really neat strings. They also give you a FREE 1st and 2nd string in the pack!
Anyways, these strings don't seem too common either so thought would pass this on.
Just spoke to the guy (Shawn at PM Blues) and he will sell them at just under $40 a case (thats 12 sets).
Now of course shipping is extra (but should'nt be too much for strings) but that still works out at less than 2 quid a set (minus shipping).
Just thought may be of interest.
They really do last a LONG time for me and my "rust issues" are extreme!

Good find!
I got the same problem with strings-sweat. So far the best combo for me is Daddario + Fast fret. In fact fast fret really saved me.
-
Their 12 string set looks interesting, if only the bottoms where not so heavy
I wonder if I would get 5 spare strings (twin spare 9s, 12s and an extra 10) ;) )
My strings go black almost instantly (less than two hours playing) and really manky with about 4 hours of playing (yes I do wipe them down), though that Dr Stringfellows stuff seems to keep them happier for longer.
I'm afraid to touvh my daughters bass as I can't afford a set of those.

Rob, I am gonna order loads (for my move) would you like me to send you a trial set?

Anyway you neeed your money for the amp packs.

oh yeah bloody amp packs... grrrrr.... you dont have a POD do you? no.. it was your boss?... i love the fact i can ask people to just send me their patches... so cool...
but yeah, on topic... the DR's suited me brilliantly- i have rusty fingers too... so these SIT ones sound cool. (thats NOT a cue to send me some ok nick? )
-
LOL @ Rob
-
I will have a word with my boss (he has my strat ATM) about the amp packs, but I think the packs are keyed to the serial number of the POD.
Personally I have a Korg Pandora which to me sounds better than the Line 6 stuff (except perhaps the very high gain models).
A friend in work was doing very good Hendrix impersonations using the Guitar port along with rifftracker (though he is a pretty good player) using the supplied backing tracks. Oh yeah get a copy of Trash (as a recording plugin) it's great fun.
Meanwhile try the stringfellows stuff on your strings, it makes them last a bit longer.

I've played SIT strings before and they're not bad at all. I don't have a rust problem though. I basically don't sweat at all. I might keep it in mind for future string purchases though. At the moment I have strings galore; I just ordered 10 packs from webstrings.com.
But thanks for the heads-up.

Used to have this problem many, many years ago when I lived and played pro in a very hot sweaty country. Strings (and the quality available locally was doubtful) were lasting one or two nights (and when you're doing six nights a week it gets expensive!). I found that by cleaning the strings with lighter fuel (UK), aka naptha (US), just a quick rub down with a cloth dampened with the stuff (don't smoke while you do this......) after, and sometimes during, each gig, the life of the strings was extended to a week/10 days. Ever since then I carry a can in my gig bag and my strings and guitar get wiped down after every gig. Strings no longer go rusty on me.
-
Again I use a bit of Pol and a rag to get the rust and stuff offa my strings.
-
What about Elixirs' new non rust. Even the unwounds are coated. They feel real good, and you can get the polyweb(more coating) or the nanoweb(less). i am from the U.S. , so I don't know about availability/ cost. $10 here at Guitar Center/ Musician's friend. I like these alot. With any other brand I use Finger ease spray. it's not sticky like Fast Fret Good luck.
-
IMO :)
They SUCK!
They are WAY too slippery and they FRAY quickly at the point of pick inpact.
OK for acoustic but for electric I stay Well Away.
Just my exhausted opinion though (even though it IS correct LOL).
-
Well, that's fine enough. I guess I Just Like slippery. They do fray at the pick area, but in my experience, that's when it's time to change 'em, which is 3 months later, not a week like most brands, but hey, Much respect for your opinion. I'm just glad someone responded.
-
I tried them and quite liked them but prefer "normal" strings. I found the coating a bit odd but the idea is fine. I always wipe my strings after use so maybe that helps keep them fresh. I used to be in a band with a guy who had corrosice sweat and if he so much as touched my guitar the strings started to go off.
-
i use EB strings and they rust really bad really fast
i wanna order some of these....does it matter which ones i order or are they all good against rust?
cuz if so i need some of these rock n roll sized Super Hooks
they look perfect!
-
I used to use LaBella Hard Rocking Steel and they were awesome - lasted forever
Really liked them, but a lack of UK distribution has stopped me using them
-
I used EB ones for ages till I realised how shite they were, I use D'Addario EXL now and they last me ages.
-
Get the ones that say "Non Rust" in the grey sphere on the top corner of package. Polyweb= more coating Nanoweb= less coating, but enough.
-
I don't like the sound of Elixer strings. I've only tried the acoustic ones, but they suck tone and brightness, so I went back to DRs and Dean Markleys.
I just tried some Webstrings last night on my electric guitars and they're ok. Cheap as anything, too.
-
Of course these days I tend to use our own strings

-
feline, who are your strings made by? I know the store I work for their house brand are made my Dean Markley, or are your strings truly your own?
-
I kill a set of strings within 3 hrs of playing, I have friends who's string stay good for months lol.. it's a weird one that.
I've found just stick to ernie ball Hybrid Slinkies they're cheap enough to change before gigs and stuff.
