Title: What Pickups?
Post by: loki_lulamen on May 11, 2006, 01:07:46 PM
Hi i have a Maverick f-1 and recently my pickups went to shite so i need a new pair.
my guitar teacher said to check out BKP

i want a really warm tone for the neck with alot of mid and bite (for solos). the origional neck pickup i had was much too bassy and had no bite to it.
For the bridge i want a pickup with alot of bite but pretty low mid so i can get that metal mid sweep sound.

i currently have a JCM 800 100watt head running through a 2x12". and im using a Boss MT-2 and ME-50 for distortion and effects.

can anyone help?

Welcome. The obvious choise for the bridge pickup would be the Miracle Man. For the neck pickup, I'm thinking Abraxas V. A Cold Sweat set could also work very well, if you like your scooped metal a bit more vintage.

You might also like the Cold Sweat calibrated set, or even the Miracle Man set.  Both sets are Ceramic magnet bridge pickups with an Alnico neck.  I have the MM set and love the sound, but have also played the Cold Sweat set too.  They don't have quite the power of the Cold Sweat but have a great 80's tone.  Think early Iron Maiden and all metal before EMG's!!  The MM is the EMG sound but with more tone and the whole feel of passive pickups.
