Hello everyone. Does anyone know where i can get a pickguard that will allow me to fit normal sized humbuckers, i.e. not fender wide range. (i think the reissue has a normal sized humbucker rigged up in a larger casing anyway)

here you go...
http://www.warmoth.com/pickguards/pickguards.cfm?fuseaction=pickguards_tele_custom
btw, I have a '72 Tele custom too - put a 1M volume pot in the neck position, it makes the pickup MUCH more useable.

Hmm.. not sure looks like a risk if it doesnt fit, its apparently not for retrofit. getting it shipped from warmouth as well will take ages.

Could always get a custom guard from WD Music UK, I think they do em anyway :P

Dazbootman (http://search.stores.ebay.co.uk/Dazbootman-Pickguards_tele_W0QQfciZQ2d1QQfclZ3QQfsnZDazbootmanQ20PickguardsQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftsZ2QQsaselZ27985598QQsofpZ0)

Lloyd, WD Music UK do what you want, give them a ring. I've had a couple of these from them in the past.

I've heard the same thing about the widerange buckers, but I wouldn't like to speculate. As for pickguards, I agree with the WD suggestion, I've bought a couple of things from them and it seems ok. Though I will say it wasn't pickguards, they are good enough to deal with.

Got an original deluxe myself. The widerange pickups are beasts!!!

I bet, if I ever see one I'll give serious thought to grabbing it.
Edit: That is if I find one that's not gonna set me back a few grand, just sniffed on e-bay and got a bit of a shock.

ok thanks fo the suggestions. The pickups as they are ok, sort of. probably should get better amp first.
when i bought the guitar off ebay i just thought that looks cool, snow patrol/franz ferdinand etc. i never even thought the pickups were a different size.

Funny enough Phil, My orig. Cost me nothing. It was it bits, in a succesion of carrier bags in an old barn at my Gran's. Turns out my uncle got the parts somewhat dodgily at the fender factory in Cali. and never got round to building it up. I did get round to building it, but I'm pretty sure I may never get around to giving it back...
it is amzing sometimes what you find in house clearances and junk shops though. I've never paid more than half list price for any piece of gear in my life...

Yeah, when I used to do removals with my uncle I always hoped something like that'd turn up. "This tatty old guitar? You can have it if you want... not even a proper tele... whoever heard of a broadcaster eh?" Never happened.

BKP should make a widerange humbucker.
