Hey all,
I'm having a bit of trouble getting the sound I'm looking for from a new set of humbucker sized P90 pickups I've just purchased.
I've always played guitars with humbuckers in, and never thought about trying other 'types' of pickups, until I jammed with Phil X - and his P90 SG sounded absolutely nuts.
These Nantuckets are in a Gibson SG 2020 model, but they don't sound as punchy or fat as I would have expected. They were recommended by Bare Knuckle, based on a video I sent of Phil X playing.
Can anyone give me any guidance please...? Am I missing a trick here? I would have thought they need to be closer to the strings due to being a single slug, but it sounds like I'm getting string pull if they're around 2mm.

I use a Nantucket in the bridge of a Hamer. Vintage output, crunches nicely when pushed.
From what I listened to, if he’s using a vintage level P 90, he’s getting help in the overdrive department from his amp rig. Using a vintage level P 90 or humbucker and getting a lot more OD from the amp rig is not uncommon, and can sound quite good.
What’s your amp?
I had to look him up btw. Wow! Talented guy, and a good sense of humor to boot!

I guess the problem has been solved!
