Anyone tried this combo in the same guitar?
I hate PAFs in the neck as I find them wooly and bloated. I like a clear neck that sounds like a giant single coil.
For the bridge though I like thicker meatier tone with no sharpness in the high strings.
So I am thinking that this combo might give me a clear neck that I like and then switching to the bridge will be like adding a boost pedal to my tone where it kicks up the gain and thickness and power a notch. I realise it is different to buying the Polymath set which may be more balanced between neck and bridge pickups, but I'm not sure the Polymath neck is what I am looking for.

I’m the same regarding neck humbuckers.
Having had a Mule set in a Korina single cut PRS SE, I think that you’re on the right track with a Mule neck. It’s not muddy like way too many neck humbuckers are. There still is plenty of warmth to the Mule neck, so I don’t know how that will affect the rhythm parts you describe.
One pickup that many here recommend as a bright neck humbucker is the Riff Raff neck model. I haven’t used it, but maybe someone will chime in regarding it.
