Title: Can you get this creamy jazz tone with mules?
Post by: Sean on May 13, 2006, 10:26:56 PM
I am guessing that the stormy mondays would be better for getting this kinda creamy jazz tone but can you get this tone with mules?

I'm hoping that the mules can do this because I'm into classic/new rock with a bit of this kinda jazz/blues thrown in.  I rather not have to choose between rock and jazz/blues.

Yeah I reckon they can easily, with the right amp setup  :D

I would go for the sormy monday for that combination of styles.

I also play stuff like Nickelback.  Can I get that amount of gain from the stormy mondays?

You can, they are only slightly lower out put than the Mules. They just have a rounder, warmer tone due to the alnico II

I know that the alnico 2's are a bit warmer and rounder but these pickups will be going in an lp with a mahogany neck/rosewood fretboard, mahogany back, and a maple top.  I know that Bkp's in general are renowned for being very clear.  Would the stormy mondays with alnico 2's still be clear (not muddy) in an lp?

What about a VHII or Alnico IV Mule for the bridge position and an Alnico III Stormy Monday for the neck position? :)

The Stormy mondays sound excelent in Les Pauls, the are one of our variations of a PAF, so they were designed with LP's in mind.

What is the difference between the alnico 2 and 4 mag.  How would the sound change.  I looking for a pickup that can do bto, zepplin, bon jovi - nicklback, creed, puddle of mud, velvet relover - BB. King and the like.  I know thats quite a tall order and I'm just unsure that one set of pickups can do all that.  No metal though!!

I still stand by Mules, at least get one for the bridge! Really versatile and I reckon it can do all those styles you said.

I rather not go mixing pickups.  A set of mules or stormy mondays was made to work together and I rather have a matched set.

Another one worth considering would be a set of Mississippi queens. You'll have plenty of drive to do nickleback and VR, but still have the clarity and cut for the jazz and BB King.

Well I'll probablly be second guessing myself till I ask Tim what he thinks when I order them.  Till then I was told the new clips would be up on the site by the 15th but I don't know.

I believe that the difference between alnicoII and alnicoIV in a pickup that is otherwise the same is that the lower number gives a sweeter tone, but with less grunt.

I'm with Tom on the pickup suggestion and would also recommend Mules.

:D I`ve got a set of Mules & VHII`s, The Mules will do the jobs your after but you`ll need to make sure you`ve got a good amp set up. The VHII neck will do the job as well but the Bridge will be a bit to much for that clean clean BB king style.

The clips are being analized at them moment so a tone chart can be made for each one. Not long now.

I emailed Tim and he thought the mules would be best for me.  So since he knows his sh!t I think I'm gonna go with mules.
