Title: See my guitars
Post by: Peterku on May 14, 2006, 02:01:19 PM
I've decided to ignore GAS for the next few years so it's time to show off my gear, lol.

1.) J&D Strat. Pickups: raw nickel BK Nailbomb bridge and BK Irish Tour neck. Mods: locking tuners, Dunlop 6000 frets, Wilkinson/Gotoh vintage trem, homemade HS pickguard, electronics, jack, ebony knob etc. Newtone Burns Special strings, 11-49.

2.) Strunal 977 classical (cedar/rosewood). Mods: bone nut and saddle, gold tuners with ebony knobs. Savarez Alliance Corum strings, high tension.

3.) Washburn acoustic-electric (spruce/mahogany). It has a built-in chorus effect, too. :D Mods: bone nut and saddle, ebony bridge pins, endpin and strap button, gold locking tuners. Newtone Masterclass strings, 10-46.

4.) Custom Artist built by Károly Filep. Pickups: camo BK Mules, calibrated set. Newtone Nickel Masters strings, 11-52.

Cheers! :D My luck was that the luthier was primarily a tech and built guitars only occasionally, 'for hobby' - that's why he sometimes spent insanely much time with some minor details and didn't care about the money he got. Mine was the last guitar he built on order. There are only a very few of them out there, each of them is one-of-a-kind, so I feel honored to play one of Károly's instruments.

Thanks! 8)

Well, they weren't that expensive compared to 'big brands' and considering that I'm going to keep playing them during the next 10 to 70 years. ;) The Strat cost ~200 USD, the classical was ~210 USD, the acoustic was ~550 USD and the price of the Artist is confidential, all I can say is that it was bloody inexpensive compared to what I got for my money, or what PRS and Gibson models sell for nowadays. Modding the classical and the acoustic wasn't expensive. The Strat went through several stages to try different pickups, pots, arrangements etc. but still didn't cost as much as a Fender.

I only needed lots of luck and patience to find a few diamonds in the rough and experiment.

LOL! When you're sitting too much in front of the computer, you need some extra comfort...
