Title: Black Dog in a mid heavy guitar? Looking for Hot Paf
Post by: Ic3Ang3l on December 15, 2024, 03:14:22 PM
Hi Guys,

I am looking for a "hot paf" kind of pickup. The Guitar has a black limba Body and a bolt on maple neck with rosewood board. Two Humbuckers and Wraparound! Fender Scale. Think of it like "Novo" Serus Style guitar.

The guitar is sounding slightly middy. Not that honky mid thing, just a good mid to low mid thing.

Would the Black Dog a good fit for this guitar? I am mostly playing something in vein of Clutch, Rival Sons. Think of Blues Rock, Heavy Rock, non drop tuned Stoner.

I like my Bridge PU slightly hotter than the neck.

Interested as well - I went ahead an ordered a Black Dog for a Les Paul and will report back.

The Black Dog does have a fairly strong midrange, so it will tend bring out those more prominent frequencies that you are hearing from your guitar, rather than balance against them - if that's what you're aiming for, to highlight those characteristics in a harmonious way, then that could certainly work great. If you are looking for more of a balance, check out the VHII, which has a much more smooth response in the mids and a little more brightness, which can balance nicely with a more throaty, mid-heavy guitar.
