Title: Help IDing a Pickup
Post by: ifarrer@ on May 27, 2025, 07:34:44 AM
I bought it second hand a few years ago as a Cold Sweat bridge(no packaging). It's lived in a drawer since then, but recently I thought I'd dig it out and give it a try. I measured the DC resistance, and it's 16.52k. You normally expect a bit of variance from the numbers on the website, but that's a lot more than the published 13.7k for a CS bridge.

So, this got me wondering what it actually is, and I can't find anything even close. It's 53mm, so definitely a bridge. The two coils read 8.08k and 8.43k.

Also, looking at the magnet, I _think_ it's a roughcast alnico. The coils are the shorter (1cm) height, compared to the high (1.2mm) coils you find on e.g., an MM.

Finally, when I installed it, it's bright and a little scooped. It's nothing like other BKs I've tried in that guitar (HD, NB-AL, MM).

Any clues greatly appreciated!

For reference:
Crawler 15.4K
Painkiller 15.6K
Nailbomb 15.7K
Holydiver 15.9K
Unity 15.9K
Miracle Man 17.9K

Looks like an early example of an Alnico v Nailbomb. It's made before we moulded our own bobbins, so that might explain some variances from current specs.
