Title: So all about the Rebel Yell?
Post by: Muso on May 16, 2006, 02:54:40 PM
Hey dudes

I'm currently a nailbomb user, I originally had an old holy diver, which i replaced with a SD JB and then up to current a nailbomb. I'm actually pretty happy with the nailbomb but I'm very interested in what the Rebel Yell has to offer as I'm a huge steven stevens fan and my band covers a couple of billy idol songs.
My initial idea when i got the nailbombs was as a short term measure till the Rebel Yells were released but I got into the nailbombs so much I'm not sure if its worth it.
I would love to hear some feedback from people who have been able to try both pickups out. I'm mostly into playing 80s metal bands like, Megadeth, billy Idol, White Lion, Dokken, Motley Crue, alice cooper etc u get the picture.

Cheers

From what I've read, the Nailbomb is heavier and the Rebel Yell more open.  If you're playing rock rather than metal, the Rebel Yell might be perfect for you...

The Rebel Yell will give you more midrange and more harmonics than the Nailbomb. It may give you more of what you're looking for over the Nailbomb.

Personally, for the type of music you're playing, I would stick with a hotter pickup like the Nailbomb, that's my own personal taste.

The midrange on the Rebel Yell is indeed pronounced.
Designed to punch through a keyboard heavy mix in Billy Idol's band, where the keyboards eat up a wide frequency range making it hard for a guitar to cut through.

Sean - didn't you have a Miracle man??

Nailbomb is more shred-metal. Rebell Yell is more classic to hard'n heavy rock. NB is very versatile. RY has a bit more personality (with its vocal mids)

I'll be putting RYs in my Les Paul soon, so I'll give you the rundown then.  To my best understanding, the Nailbombs seem to be very suited to the type of music that you play, a bit better than the Rebel Yell although if you do get some RYs it is possible that you might find that your best tone has got a whole lot better, but it's not as suited to your style of music.

I should mention, that I usually used "cleaner" pickups than most people think I need for heavier types of music...  usually has a little more attitude that way ;)
