Title: Nailbomb H-S-S wiring, hum....
Post by: dav2321 on May 17, 2006, 04:10:51 AM
Hello all, I have a nailbomb(4-conductor wire) that I've installed into a Washburn N6 (H-S-S, 5-way position switch). I get a hum noise thats more prevalent when the guitar is facing upward or facing down-but not hardly at all when in normal playing position (weird?). I have wired it according to BKPs suggestion i.e. red to hot,black/bare to ground, and white/green to the push/pull coil tap. Is this just a wire not insulated on my part or did I wire this incorrectly? The pickup sounds great by the way. Thanks.

How much hum are we talking about when the guitar is pointing up/down?  So much that there's hardly any notes if you sound the strings?  (Loose wire to ground)

I would guess that if you'd wired it totally wrong there'd be no sound out of it at all, regardless of how you held it :)

Possibly something hasn't been grounded?

When in a playing position, if you take your hands off so you're not touching any metal parts (strings/bridge/tuners/jackplate etc) does the hum change much?

the hum is the same whether I'm touching any metal or not. Also it's the same with the lights/ computer monitor off. Could this be just because the pickup is high output?
