Hi all.
Just quickly wanted to join in the praises and thank everyone at BKP for making such excellent pickups!
I just had my Warpig/Mule equiped Explorer delivered from Shamray Guitars (www.Shamray.net) and I have to say, these pickups are probably the best I've ever tried!
The 'Pig is just beastly, low end rumble that'll blow your pants off, yet somehow it still manages to sound open and tonefull, never edging into muddy. The mule just gives you that lovely PAF mellowness, yet has enough grunt to stay with the 'Pig with both pickups on, a GREAT combo!
My thanks once again BKP and especially to Tim who gave me lots of advice on what would really work the best for me, I'll no doubt order another set of pickups from you within the near future. Just have to figure out what I want, so much to choose from...
BTW, the pickups have ebony covers crafted by my luthier at Shamray, they're not a new option offered by BKP, so don't pester Tim about it if you like the look.

Hi Hozze, and welcome. Beautiful guitar, excellent pickup choice. :)

Stunning guitar!
What's the story on those covers? Are they homemade?

Sorry, should have read the post better.

Wow, dude! That picture made my eyes tear up! That is so purrrty. I used to have a purple burst one of those, but not near as gourgeous. Happy Shredding :D
-
Thanks guys, she sure is a beauty. Plays and sounds as good as she looks, too.
Just went ahead and ordered another set of BKP's for my beloved old Gibson Explorer (Miracle Man bridge/Cold Sweat neck). Should hopefully be an improvement over the stock p'ups, although I'm one of the few people who actually likes the Gibson 500T bridge p'up.

Love the guitar. Enjoy pigging out on it :D

How do leads sound through your 'Pig? Always wanted to know. Everyone says that theyre great for chugging, but as much as I love chugging and hot pups, I gotta know...And are the cleans as good as they say???
-
Leads are fine, very passable, but I don't think they're going to blow you away.
I just don't think the 'Pig was voiced with lead as the first priority. IMO an alnico magnet just won't give you the tightness that to me really signifies a great lead tone. I'm sure Tim would gladly wind you a 'Pig with ceramic magnets though, that might be just the ticket, although it still won't cut through that well I guess.
The king of the heavy riff the 'Pig most certainly is though, and I have to say that for a high output pup the cleans and overdriven sounds are excellent indeed. This is were the alnico magnets help out a lot I'd imagine.
Overall I think it's a really great allrounder with "chugging" as its specialty, which makes it perfect for my needs, at least.

Great looking guitar, I love explorers and that one is a peach.

AWESOME AXE
when do we will see some unholy sondclips!?
Q:p
-
I'm afraid I don't have any recording equipment, but there's plenty of 'Pig and mule clips in the players section as is...
-
I got the MM/CS set on friday and installed them over the weekend. Man, I sure liked the 'Pig/Mule combo well enough, but I absolutely LOVE these pickups!
The MM reminds me a little of the Gibson 500T that was in the guitar earlier, but MUCH more defined and tight and even more powerfull. Those old 80's thrash riffs have never sounded better, Hetfield and Hanneman would be proud if they could hear it!
The CS in the neck is a lot warmer and smoother then I thought it would be (and that's a good thing), yet has plenty of drive to stay with the MM. A perfect pairing, no wonder Tim recommended them as a set.
Couldn't be happier with both sets of pickups, they do their respective things better then anything I've heard before, highly recommended!

So do you have two explorers or have you taken the pig and mule out?
-
I've got 2, an old Gibson (my first guitar and still probably the best guitar I've ever played, I'll never get rid of her) and the new custom. The 'Pig/Mule are still in the custom where they'll be staying permanently.

Your first guitar was a Gibson Explorer? Lucky guy!

Glad your enjoying your BK`s !1

:( I want one!

Actually I didn't start playing electrics 'till I was 20, so I had plenty of time to save up cash. I knew I was sticking with it and I'd always loved the look of explorers, so I figured why not? Tried a bunch of different guitars though, but I fell in love with that one right away.
