Post by: maliciousteve on May 19, 2006, 01:04:50 PM
How do these sound? in what style of music do they shine in? I'm thinking of buying one on Ebay because i love the tone of the Mark IV, will this get me close to that tone?

If I remember correctly, they have the same preamp circuit as the MkII on channel 1, and the MkIII on channel 2.

They can go all the way from Santana to Metallica.  If you like they MkIV, you'll probably like the Studio Pre.

I love 'em!

I've got the Triaxis, and the RectoRecording Pre-
The Recto does Recto-very cool rock and roll , w/metal tendencies

The Triaxis is by far the most versatile-Does  Marks 1/2/4,Rectos, and great cleans and drive...

It's archaic, and could use a update into the new millenium-

membrane buttonpads, and stoneage navigation/programming, mono out fixed mix effectsloop, and lots more besides, but DAMN, is the tone there!

Realttime midi control is also great-midi expression pedals like the ART x-15. etc, can control any parameter or combination to do fantastically useful tweaking while you play-my favorite settings use one pedal to control gain and lead drive simultaneously, while the master volume sits  unaffected-from crystal clean, to molten shredding death, & back...

Can't say enough good things about this preamp.

If you want one mesa preamp, let this be the one.
-It does mark IV-
it IS mark IV,II,I, and Recto preamp circuits in one box-
