After playing a '68 SG Special yesterday, I've decided I want an early sixties SG Junior. But I'm not paying £2500 for a beat up, shady history, eBay special!
Are there any custom builders who could make me an exact reproduction of a '63 - '64 SG Junior in Polaris White? Dog ear P-90, wrapover bridge, super slim neck, long tenon join, preferably with a relic finish? Like this:

If that guitar had a proper sg scratchplate (like my SG special) I would make love to it each and every night.
You should know what I mean when I say that. Thats right, I'd put my penis into it.

I think, theoretically, any luthier would be able to build you an exact model, provided that you can supply them with the data regarding the guitar i.e. harware, neck shape/profile, nut width and so on. I'd imagine that kind of data is available through the internet.

im with Mark on that one...
althought im less picky so id pleasure myself without the proper scratchplate... :D
but yer i think like Ian said... most luthiers should be able to do that im guessing....
-
PM sent
-
what pup are you gonna get Twinfan?
also, if/when you go through with this... could you tell me which luthier you settled on and price e.t.c cause im just interested to see how much a melody maker clone would cost (VERY similar to the sg your after- but les paul style...)
-
Sambo WHY a clone when Gibbos are cheap?
-
i dunno lol.... i wouldnt say they are cheap really...
and maybe not exactly a clone more of a similar playing/feeling guitar with a different sound and look...
-
$500 new here
-
yes... THERE...
-
to me $500 at 1.87214 rate = 267 quid, plus shipping, plus import taxes = ALOT less than a Luthier Custom Made to YOUR specs axe, is all :)
Now, if it was different (as in custom routing, shape, neck etc.) or unavailable (i.e. 60's and vintage outrageous price) then fair play, but a current cheaper guitar?
-
yer ok ok... point made...
but im just doing some research... getting idea of prices... and like i mentioned, it will be a difference in some ways...
-
I didn't need to read all that penis stuff so early in the day. :(

^ ?

You didn't read the posts by Sambo and Badgermark?
Keep them away from your guitars!
-
I actually read the WHOLE post.
PM'd Twinfan with some info. and asked Sambo why he was considering a Luthier made "current model guitar" if he had not specified any "custom attributes".
I am confused to what was said "wrongly"?

I wasn't serious and critical of their posts, when I originally posted in this thread. I was posting tongue-in-cheek myself. But here are the posts I was talking about:

Hmmm :? Anyway, back on Topic Jonathon at Feline Guitars could make you one of those no sweat! I had a go on a black 'Gothic SG' at the LGS with Warpigs in and it was a tasty bit of kit. His Les Paul is out of this world too, well so are all of his guitars really! I did a price comparison to the other luthiers at the show and he is cheaper by a mile.
-
Yeah, those custom Feline guitars are so tempting. It's a damn pity the pound is worth so much more than the Canadian dollar.

thanks Johnny - just to clarify
Prices atart at about £1500
You can have it madethe way you want and get around the unwanted quirks of the original design
Payment by instalments makes it easier on the pocket
Now - which BKP would you have in it??

Stop! Stop! Please, I mean it. This is really not helping my hankering for a Feline 335 style axe with Mississippi Queens *head desk*.
One day, one day...

Cheers for the info guys - food for thought. I reckon a regular BKP-90 would be spot on...
-
I know juniors cost less, but as mentioned they're $500 new, and I got my '67 for £799, which I assume was because the tuners were vintage correct rather than original, and the swiggle stick was absent.
Though if you can get a Feline from £1500, that's deffinitely worth looking at, and since SGs tend to be pretty bare bones guitars you won't push the price up too high either.

It's ok - you are safe
We dont make 335 types of guitars as a large veneer press is required which we dont have
A few big companies do make nice ones - even Gibson
We do haowever fit lovely BKPs in them
