Title: Octane and Navarro in Texas
Post by: Dakine on May 21, 2006, 04:50:39 PM
Well,
last night went to downtown Houston to a place called The Meridian.
Firstly, damn wish I had found/known about this place earlier as it's a GREAT live venue. Very relaxed, several bars/tables around and a great stage. Not that you would be at the back, but if you were you would be about 50ft. MAX from the band.

Anyway's, got there abit early. So, standing outside waiting, along comes Dave Navarro! VERY personable and nice chap. Chatted with him for awhile (left my cell at home and missus was out of batt. so no pics :(  ). Did'nt realise he is so small though  :o  Chatted for about 10-15 mins as he hung out (only bout 4 people there at that point so quite cool).

So, on with the show.

I really went to see an L.A. group called Bullets and Octane. What can I say, they Kick Major Ass!!!!!!! 4 piece band, guitar player played a Gibbo LP (looked to be "zebra" DiMarzio loaded) and a gorgeous Gretch. Suffice to say they played about a 50 min. set and were ALL I expected/hoped for. I have both their CD's and I trully hope they go far. Afterwards, chatted to the drummer and bassist. Apparently they have played in Europe already and are playing next at the Download Festival. So those lucky enough to be going (think I will still be in TX then) can check em out. They are basic straight forward in ya face rock

Then came The Panic Channel, Dave Navvaro et. all's new group. Now, their production was markedly better (dunno if this was intentional by the PA crew or equipment) but they truly LACKED the energy and "In Ya Face" raw power that Bullets and Octane gave out.

Anyway, great night, great venue and basically got to meet/talk to every band member I wanted too, VERY cool.

Wish I was going to Download, Bullets and Octane have ALOT of ENERGY!!!!!!!!!!  Need BKP's in his LP though (and YES I did point that out to him :) )

cool, I'm a huge Jane's Addiction fan  but don't care much for TPC.

Do you mind if I post your review over at a Jane's Addiction forum I'm involved with? People would sure like to hear it!
