I am looking at getting a new wha pedal
My Cry-baby has cried its last cry.
I am not sure whether to get a new one of these or a vox wah.
I have also been looking at the digitech ex-7 wah modelling pedal
any help or advice would be good thanks
-
Get the Vox.
-
i had a Vox (Clyde McCoy re-issue) twas very nice indeed... very nice..
but never used it as the lead.g in my band was borrowing it all the time and got annoying so i sold it... just dont need a wah pedal you see..
but yes... very good
-
I had a Crybaby from Hell for awhile (good pedal) but if was to get another would prolly try the new Slash crybaby. As well made but more tweakable and more gain.
-
Thanks for yuor help so far, :D
I didn't know there was a slash Wah out
I have been thinking and I am not sure whether to go for switchless wah or get a swithed one
:?:

if by switchless you mean a Morley, don't do it!
-
switchless? as in you cant turn it off!?!?!?!?!?
how stupid is that!!?!??!
-
yeah I was briefly looking at a morley for about 2 minutes
thing is being a dyed in the wool Blues man who like to experiment, I always look at other options before I look at the most obvious ones :? 8)

no... its ones where you just push forwards on the pedal and they turn on, they are spring loaded so when you release the pedal it goes back to being c--ked back and then it switches off.. I think.

The driving guitar force behind Creed helped design the Morley Mark Tremonti Power Wah -- the most advanced, hottest wah around. No switch, just step on it to engage the wah and step off to disengage. Boost knob adds 20dB of wah boost and the tone is a perfect hybrid of classic and contemporary wah voices. Electro-optical design means there are no pots to wear out. Clear-Tone buffer circuit, diamond plate footpad, and LED indicator. Works great with bass guitar.

 BUT IT SOUNDS TERRIBLE. Just like Mark  IMHO i suppose
-
did'nt say liked it, just posted how it works.
now the Slash is more complex than the Crybaby from Hell I had and that worked V.well

the theory sounds terrible or the actual pedal SOUNDS terrible?
-
pedal is not so hot, not made too well either
-
Try a Budda! I just got one its wicked, its on my mule demo in the players room.
-
eXXXpensive though, arent they? delicious though for sure!
-
The reviews on Harmony central are pretty positive about the Tremonti wah http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Data/Morley/Mark_Tremonti_Power_Wah-1.html
as were all the magazine reviews for it.
Personally, the whole click on and off thing is too much coordination for me :(
-
hmm i hated it wen i played it. Yeah i hate the whole click and off thing too - the concept is nice. I never liked any of the morley series pedals - they just don't sound like wah's should to me...

I have the Vox 847.
Pros,
1. It sounds fantastic, but see point 2 under Cons.
2. It's built tough.
3. It's pretty inexpensive for quality really.
Cons,
1. No DC input, only 9v battery.
2. It's not a bypass pedal, ie it sucks tone out (badly) even when switched off.
Still, there's nothing that sounds like it, it's just, well erm, that good.
-
I second both the Budda and Vox wahs.
-
Why such violence towards the morley wahs?
I love mine....though it doesn't exactly "wah" as much as a different wah pedal, it does a great job of what it does. The "wah" sound is best on clean....very funk type sound.
Overdriven, through my recto, it works more like a boost than a wah, which for me, is just fine for lead parts! A little wah, but very subtle.
Finally, the auto on and off! OMG! What a feature! It lets you use the pedal in many more ways that just aren't possible with other wahs.
-
Have you looked at the Zvex Wah probe?
Not tried one myself but would certainly test drive one if I were in the market....
-
i've got an old morley wah and i don't much like it. every year or so i plug it in just to check, and then put it away again! it does suit clean guitar better, but it's a very cold, clinical sound. of course, all these years and still no scratching pots!
my old crybaby now scratches like a small flea infested dog! i've got one of those hot potz that i must get around to installing... but it's a much better sounding wah than the morley, even wih the scratching.
the reason i haven't gotten around to installing the hot pot? i got a zakk wylde wah! i've heard a lot of people say they're too brutal or exreme or somesuch, they mustn't have actually listened to it. i find it a great, sweet sounding wah. definitely the best i've ever used with a distorted sound, it can give a hugely aggressive sound, but clean up and you can get beatiful, vocal like sounds.
have to say, the wah sounds in the pod xt aren't bad. they don't have the grit or balls of the dunlop, but they have more personality than my morley.
-
Whats the bypass like on the Zakk wah?

Whats the bypass like on the Zakk wah?
I'd guess it was the same as on any other cry baby...

It didn't get such great reviews on harmony, but fantastic reviews in the press, and from anyone i've spoke to who's played it. I think I'll have to check her out for myself.
-
I've been listening to a lot of wah demos recently, as I'm planning on getting one in the next few months (I used to have a cry-baby, but sold that when I got my Boss GT-5, and now I'm not using that I need a stand-alone wah again ).
I'm pretty decided on a Morley Bad Horsie 2. It sounds the closest to what I think a wah should sound like (either that or I just listen to too much Vai ).

This pedal is ace
Modify it with a hardwire bypass switch and add a DC 9V adaptor
there are websites dedicated to wah mods!

Hmm...wah's, confusing.
I have the 'Crybaby Classic' right now, the one with the Fasel inductor. It's a nice wah, but I want to get something that can give a more interesting sound. You know, John Frusciante uses the Ibanez WH10 - who else uses one? - and it has this extended sweep that sounds really sweet and unique. Of course, I don't see the point in being 'unique' by copying someone  so I'll not look for a secondhand WH10. The few ideas I had were the Teese RMC2 (with all the dials), the Automagic Silvermachine (looks very interesting but maybe a bit too different?), get a wah modified by Stuart Castledine (apparently lengthy turnaround), or a Moog LoPass filter & expression pedal (expensive and cumbersome).
Feline, I had a quick search on google for websites about modifying wahs but it's hard to know where to start! Are there any particular websites you would recommend?
-
Just bought a RealMcCoy RMC3 today - foakin amazing !!!!!
Wanna buy my Vox847 w/true bypass mod?
-
The best thing about the Vox is that it is really vocal- just has that "human" voice quality about it and I find that allows more "emotion" to be expressed.
And Michael Schenker used to use one.....

'Tis ace indeed, and worth modifying, it's on my to do list, as soon as I can detach it from my foot for long enough!

Get the Vox.
Definitely. Hearing a Cry Baby after using a Vox is like using no wah at all.
-

I have one and I cannot say that it sucks any tone whatsoever. The only problem with it is that I had a distortion pedal that if I ran the Vox in front of, when I turned the pedal it on I would get silence even with the wah off.
