Hi - I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to purchase Relic looking Stratocaster necks? I'm looking for a Stratocaster Neck, Relic looking, large headstock 1970's style, with the long Fender Stratocaster logo on it - Maple Fretboard too.
Is there somebody out there who manufactures Relic parts and accessories? Please help if you can,

Could always find a used neck on ebay maybe? Other than that I dont know of anywhere that I've seen selling em.

Fender's custom shop do a great job of relicing guitar necks, but I'd imagine that'd cost a lot of $$$, even if they actually agreed to do the neck separate.
If it were me I'd probably get a 70's/CBS strat neck from Warmoth, finish it in nitrocellulose and relic it myself. Why do you need a relic?

If you go for a Warmoth, don't apply any finish other than a bit of wax or similar. It will look grubby in around an hour and feel cool to play too.

Why do you say it will look grubby in an hour? also are warmoth any good? Thanks

Because your hands will grubby up the neck - although I wouldn't advise that method, as playing without a hard finish voids your warmoth warranty.
Warmoth quality is fantastic, if you want a guitar that feels like a relic neck, which is much better than one that looks like a relic'ed neck, hand roll the fingerboard edges before painting when you get the neck. Get either a metal rod or some 240 and 400 grit sandpaper (I prefer a combination of both) and round off the edges of the neck so when you put your finger on the fretboard and slide it down the side of the neck, it's rounded and smooth. Makes a neck so nice to play on....

You can find this kinda stuff on eBay pretty often. Also, there are tons of custom shops out there who can make necks to your exact specs. The only ones I know of are in the US, but that's because it'd be silly for me to order from Europe when I can get stuff here. Let me know if you want websites for the custom shops in the US and I'll post them here or PM you or something.

Your right, Warmoth won't warrant an unfinished neck because they can absorb moisture and so on, but I've used mine like this for well over a year, took it abroad, toured it, left it in a sub zero condition rehersal room for weeks on end, really used it without any adjustments or problems whatsoever. The quality of the necks are amazing. They only cost around £100, and that was for a birdseye finish too. Even after a few years, the neck warps due to lack of finish, for the sake of £100 the feel is worth it alone. Unfinished necks feel nicer to the touch, with no sticky paint, but do look grubby and used. I like 'em. Get a natural body too. Never have to polish it. I hate polishing and re-stringing guitars. Proper workhorse!! :D

What are peoples thought's on Relic'd guitars anyway? I have an old guitar mag kicking around at home that has a Custom shop relic Pete Townsend Gibson SG that's all battered, oily grime finish, rusted parts and it's a fortune. I don't get it?? :? It's not the real deal to me.

I don't see the point in buying a relic'd guitar for more money...
If i wanted a relic style guitar i'd ABUSE a stock one :twisted:

Thanks. Doing some reading on forums and apparently it's tough to even get prices out of Relicaster. Doesn't seem to be well liked in the Relic community.
