Title: Guitar Teacher??
Post by: JakeLeigh1986 on May 26, 2006, 08:49:19 PM
Hey everyone.

Does anyone know a really good guitar teacher in London (I'm in Islington/Central London)? I've been playing for 6/7 years now, brought up on Lizzy, Guns and Roses, 80s Rock, etc. Looking to take my playing up to next level now, like sweeping, speed stuff. Been stuck in a rutt for too long! Cheers guys, any links/help would be v v much appreciated

Jake

Hey man, well I've been looking for a teacher too, same kind of reasons. Can't help you on your particular area, but here is the link to the National Registy of Guitar Tutors:

I wouldn't be that blinkered to be honest.

The man knows more about guitar playing than you'll ever know. Mabey if you took your head out of your arse and stop acting like a prima donna you could learn some cool stuff.

Ima have to side with indy on this one, it looks like a shrine to this amanda woman rather than an advert - i'd be worried about his mental stability somewhat, however good a guitarist he is :P

Just looks like an advert for this Amanda within his site to me, nothing more.

Good player, not aimless/mindless shredding and based on what I have heard, if his knowledge of theory and his approach to teaching backs it up, then is well worth checking out.

He got a mention in Guitarist this month for the gigs his doing, they also did an interview with him some years back. I think that speaks for itself.

As for his 'Mental State' fella, just cos' he has a friends link on his site that deals with Tarot ect doesn't make it a cause for worry.

Some of his methods might seem out there but so is music in a lot of cases. The mind part of his teaching isn't a lot different to some of the methods employed by classical composers.

Johnny lighten up; i was only joking and i'm sure deg0ey was too - i don't care if he's plugging lunatics or not. Didn't even say anything about his ability to play guitar - i've no doubt that he's fantastic

Maybe you were but it didn't come over that way. I found it judgemental, arrogant and insulting, he is a good friend of mine too.

Sorry about that, but it was really not meant as an insult - yet looking back i think a different choice of words was needed

aaaanyways, i have nothing really to add to this thread so i'll leave...

Try the registry as suggested or see if the Guitar Institute/ ACM have any graduates set up teaching locally
