Title: Pantera tone... Track= Hollow- any ideas?

ok for anyone whose heard the pantera track 'Hollow'... the lead guitar for the first half or whatever...

anyone know what amp that is? any particular effects people hear on it?

just wondering cause i wanna try and make a POD patch to that kinda sound...

ANY ideas useful...

Just experiment with the high gain patches is my advice, you should find something good there that'll do what you want I'm guessing..

Dime always used Randall 100w heads with an MXR Distortion into the front end & a graphic EQ to further modify the tone.  I remember reading an interview from the early days when he described running three amps with different settings and mixing them together to get the desired tone.  One set very bassy, one very bright and another with a flanger set to a very slow speed.  Don't know how much that helps you ????

i haven't listened to vulgar display of power in a while, but i think the lead part you're talking about is harmonised, at least two guitars.  if you listen to the faster (and incredibly cleanly picked! ) solo later in the song, it's probably a similar tone to that, which should be easier to get, then add some kind of harmoniser effect.  
he did use randall amps, i'd imagine on the pod the closest would be the rectifier or soldano models, or their insane one.  and try using less distortion than you first imagine!  we do tend do pile on the drive and then mess around with e.q.  it works better the other way around

Randall RH-100.  Back then, I think he was also using a Furman PQ-3 to boost his pickups and a Roctron Silencer to keep things tight.....both used out front.
