Are all of these Explorer style guitars neck heavy?
I tried an Epiphone korina explorer and the neck just fell when i let go of the neck, are all of them like this, e.g. Jackson Kelly, Dean Z, ESP EX.
-
An Explorer shouldn't be neck heavy unless the bodywood is very light.
If this is the case - lighter weight tuners may help
-
I've got 2 explorers and neither is neck heavy, in fact if anything they might be slightly back heavy. Where the front strapbutton is positioned can have a major effect though.
-
Heh, hozze i saw your shamray explorer, it's smokin! What other explorer do you have?
-
I had an Epi korina explorer. Slightly neck heavy. The neck (mahogany) was heavier than the body (korina, sort of). It helps if you move the strap button from the top horn to the heel.

Alright, thanks guys for the replys :D
-
Not quite the same, but I had an Epi Firebird. yeah, it was neck heavy. I always planned on fitting a bigsby trem to counterbalance the neck.
-
What is the best quality Explorer i can get for £500, i've looked through most well known brands and the Dean Z Black And Gold has come out on top, are there any unknown/smaller brands that do better ones?
-
Dunno about better, but Tokai do an Explorer and they're a great brand for the money.
-
Yeah but i don't think it is as good as the Dean though.
-
Odd, all the ESP's I've had are very balanced, if not, just ever so slightly neck heavy. As in, when you let go, it slowly slides down just a bit. My EC-1000 is perfect, never changes.
-
Well i know which one i would get if i could afford it...

I like the lawsuit ESP EXP's better.
-
Or why not go ALL out and pay for Gibson to "f*ck" up the guitar for you, for that authentic "Knackered" look :)

lol is that serious? It looks shite! Thats the kind of finish that would make someone come up to you and say, hey dude what happened to your guitar.
-
Ok, let's say the "aged" thing is a little childish.
But otherwise, I love this classic black/white gibson explorer. Ever since I saw the Scorpions first time about 18 years ago, I was hooked by the classy looks of this guitar.
-
Yeah i love it too, it's just a shame about the price.

You think? in my head the kind of people that buy aged guitars are boring old men that can't age their guitar's themselves because
a) they're dying soon
b) they can't play because of their arthritis
c) it's never gigged.
