Post by: sambo on May 29, 2006, 11:36:55 AM
just got back from Mayfest... wow... had a great time... stayed up til late hours of the morning haha... running around in sleeping bags... twas hilarious...

highlight of the day/night:

HAYSEED DIXIE!!!! were AMAZING... they covered the AC/DC stuff i was expecting (stuff like highway to hell, whole lot a rosie) then did some mega cool ones like War Pigs and the Ace of Spades... truly SENSATIONAL...

the banjo player...

oh

my

god

no more needs to be said.

bass player looks like James Hetfield too hahaha...

was truly the most amazing playing of instruments ive ever seen/heard... just awesome... go see them if you can seriously... even if you HATE country music with a passion... they are just so damn good...

oh yer and to top off their set they had a song all about poop in a jar.... hahahah ahhhhh crazy americans...

They are great. The bit in the version of i believe in a thing called love where the singer says "banjo" instead of "guitar" had me laughing for about a week.

Personally I love the version of Stairway to Heaven that they do (sort of bluegrass Jango Reinhert)

Yeah I'm still alive Sam.

I have to admit, I also have the tribute albums by Iron Horse (http://www.ironhorsebluegrass.com/) (also with obligatory MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/ironhorsebluegrass)). It astounds me what excellent bluegrass songs things like "Bark at the Moon" make! :)

(Iron Horse have pretty normal vocals, rather than somewhat over-the-top stylings of Hayseed Dixie.  I dig HD in concert, but I'll agree that the vocals get to be a bit much with repeated listenings on the iPod ;)).

Oh my goodness.  Thanks for posting that link!  I'd never heard of them.  And, man, that's the funniest thing I've heard or seen for ages!  :D

Say your prayers, little one
Don't forget, my son,
To include everyone . . .

Yeah the beast has risen from it's slumbers, as it's 6:6:6

Ok so it's a bit more Cthuluhu mythos sounding than satanic but it's good enough for me.

Still in Belfast, so far my week at home has lasted 4 weeks and looks like lasting a while longer.

Glad you enjoyed Hayseed Dixie theyre great fun, and I see that you are enjoying Jeff Healey too, look out for an old Patrick Swazie (spelling ?) movie called Roadhouse as the Jeff Healey band are in it (the sole reason for watching ot)

Mr Healey also did a soundtrack for a Stephen Segal movie (don't know which one though).

Try searching out some Francis Dunnery stuff (he was in It Bites and also one of Robert Plants bands) as he did some pretty cool stuff. I think the first album he played a Squire Strat for most of it (when Squires where built in Japan though). There was a BBC radio broadcast of It Bites which was recorded in Reading in 85 where his playing is to the fore.
