...just a cheap one to start with. I've not really got any big aspirations about the instrument, but I'd like to be able to use it in blues/rock based recordings (eg. for swapping phrases with the guitar).

Is this any good for starting off with? Do you think A would be the best key to get one in, or E? From the looks of that chart, one in A would cover A, E, Bm, while one in E would cover E,B,Fm. I think I'd get more use out of A, E and Bm keys, so is this the one to go with?

don't forget the tumbleweed

Get one in A.
Tried harmonica, sucked at it. It's not an instrument you can learn to play. I think you you have to grow up with it.
Chime in the crickets and tumbleweed again.

I bought one in NYC- in the key of G. Takes a while to get something interesting but worth the work. I am certainly no Lou Adler (though I am alive and he isn't so that is something I suppose).

Listen to The Legendary Shack Shakers for some of the best harp stuff you'll ever hear. Must hear: Fistwistle Boogie.
