Title: Insurance Estimates
Post by: Dakine on May 30, 2006, 03:40:10 PM
OK,
need lil help/advice.

I am travelling Thur. to UK but will also very soon be moving.

Now, I have ALOT to do and some stuff is getting better of me. I am/will try and check myself but as alot of you are "johnny on the spot" as it where.

My Guitars are all insured and same company will insure them in the UK. However, ALL the values are gonna change over there.

So, this is what I have and what I am thinking to put value wise, please lemme know if you think this is a good estimate (obviously need to OVER estimate and not under).

Thanks guys,
Nick

Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Super Sport       $2,200 or about 1,100 pounds
Ernie Ball Music Man JP6 Piezo Ltd. Edt.     $3,200 or about 1,700 pounds
Gibson Les Paul Standard 1991                 $3,800 or about 2,000 pounds
Lowel Custom SG                                    $3,000 or about 1,500 pounds
Ovation 1778 RTF                                    $3,000 or about 1,500 pounds

These sound good (without being over the top, hence paying more in premiums?). Also, this is NOT what have them insured for now (just upped the Axis due to bringing it Thur.) but need to do this before too long.

Spot on on the JP6, and probably close for the axis and the LP, don't know about the others though.
Does this mean you'll be joining me in Sunny Wiltshire?

Yep, coming HOME to deepest darkest Druid Country.
Little village between Stonehenge and Salisbury.
So, the JP6, as is loaded (know will not find limited edition easy though) sounds good?

If memory serves the "real" or "street" price is about £1400, so £1700 should be good for insurance.

Apparently RRP on the supersport is £1320

Thanks Ben

1,400 quid for a loaded JP6! Wow, cheaper than I thought.

They're not that easy to come by, so you may want to do some extensive websearching for that one.

Yeah, bloddy Ernie Ball (been through this on his forum, although Not affiliated blah blah he posts ALL the time and Lord Forbid ANY question be posed towards HIS company! He NEEDS a sense of humor and GLOBAL business course LOL).
Anyway, all but the Axis will be professionally shipped so (barring a sinking ship) all should be good :)

Maybe we can hook up sometime (once my life settles abit, if ever) and can Aurally "rape and pillage" sleepy Wiltshire
Need more than Peter Gabrial, Toyah Wilcox and Sting in the county (oops forgot, Paul Di Anno was hanging in Salisbury too, mooching beers I hear) LOL.

Nick, be aware that you might not be insuring them at a given value ( see the small print).  Whatever you set as a value, in the event of a loss they will still expect you to prove their value- the values you are setting now are for rating purposes. Having said that, it is wise to get the sums insured as accurate as possible to avoid the tricky question of something called underinsurance.

Hey Mr.38th :)
You are so darn helpful and polite :) Wanna meet ya one day :)

Yeah, the adjuster (if worst happens) will want some proof of current value etc. Just trying to make sure I don't underinsure (as you rightly mention). ALL are irriplaceable except for LP really. Ovation - hand painted, Axis - one of only 3 made, SG - Custom made, JP6 - last year Limited Edition. So all is abit daft, but gotta put some value on em.

I am lucky enough to have coverage by a company called USAA. This was set up initially by US Airforce Officers. Now Officers dependants and family can take advantage. I am NO insurance expert but all have met here in US are BLOWN away by my coverage and meager costs. I have had to make 1x auto claim and 1x computer claim before (only the computer one was abit painfull as technology dates so quickly etc.). Anyways, they will continue guitar and auto insurance in UK, just cannot do property for me.

Thanks :)

Nick

Amen!

Good insurance company in UK;

http://www.musicguard.co.uk/

And NO your renters/home insurance (alone) does NOT cover it!

Be safe out there  8)

By the way, if anyone from Ireland on the forum chances across a red strat, with a big chip on the lower bout (round the back), A guy's name inside the backplate and the interior shielded with tinfoil, sporting the serial V00029463, let me know. I'll send the boys round.
I bought such a spiral of cr@p after I lost that one, changed guitars four times and downgraded every time!!!

Hey Dakine, at least Toyah has Robert Fripp with her    Although when I saw him at G3 people were booing him    It wasn't that he was bad, it's just you don't go to G3 to listen to ambient whale music.
Unfortunately living in a rural village does tend to limit your access to Chinese martial arts. I think there's Lau Gar in Salisbury, and bizzarrely there's white crane in Burbage  :o

Yeah, thats where I took Lau Gar :)

Now, maybe if I found a GOOD Aikido place, then I would be excited :)

Anyway, sleepy lil Wiltshire village is about to be pillaged all over again (they thought they had gotten rid of me years ago lol, oh and as for the NEW townie infiltrators that have arrived there, You Are On TOP of My List   )
